The 2011 NFL Draft begins tonight, with the 1st round getting underway at 8 pm when the Carolina Panthers go on the clock. As usual the Patriots have a plethora of picks, some of which they'll use, with others likely to be traded for higher picks in next year's draft. But regardless of what the Pats do over the next 3 days, they will certainly have a hard time matching the success of their 2010 draft class. Last year New England added 6 players who went on to play key roles on last year's team as rookies: Devin McCourty, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Brandon Spikes, Jermaine Cunningham and Zoltan Mesko. The Pats have 2 picks tonight, slated to select at #17 and #28 (they also have 2 picks in both the 2nd and 3rd rounds tomorrow). Although New England's top pick would seem likely to come from a group of defensive linemen that includes Cameron Jordan, Aldon Smith, J.J. Watt, Ryan Kerrigan and Adrian Clayborn, the call here is that Bill Belichick shakes up the draft (as usual) and reaches for Temple defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson. At #28 Belichick will try to solidify his offensive line by grabbing guard Danny Watkins of Baylor. Of course when considering a Bill Belichick draft there is always the possibility that the Pats pick at neither #17 nor #28, in which case all bets are off. With that warning, check out the comments section for my entire mock draft, and feel free to add your own. In Bill We Trust!

Rumors going that the Patriots are considering trading #17 and #28 to Cleveland for #6. If true (and who knows if it is) it seems the Pats would be considering:
CB - Patrick Peterson
WRs- Julio Jones, A.J. Green
DE - Robert Quinn
Of course they'd love Von Miller, but I don't see him falling below #3, and certainly not below #5 (he's probably #2 despite what my mock has).
I thought Wilkerson was an amazing "out of the blue" pick by me, then today I see Mel Kiper has him going in his 1st round mock too. Lame. Way to steal my thunder even if I'm right Mel.
Another rumor has the Pats trading up to #9 to get Cameron Jordan.
Not sure if this would also mean giving up both 1st round picks, but clearly at least #17 would be involved.
Holy Von Miller's glasses!!! Were those things real? If so, what an insane prescription? They were as thick as DK's glasses in 5th grade!
DK is 4 for 4
Carson Palmer happier with the AJ Green pick or is he praying to be traded (Arizona would be ideal for him)
BTW - Cam Newton owes Andrew Luck HUGE. By allowing Newton to be #1 is a game changer financially and Luck would have been a Panther without question.
Locker to Titans! Wow. Gabbert awkwardly smiling
Gabbert looks like a hockey player....or....an NFL QB that is easy to hate
Dallas Cowboys milked the entire clock. What a dick move.
Tyron Smith milking the phone call and delaying getting on stage. Cowboys = totally overdramatic
Gabbart to Jax - trade from Redskins
David Garrard's choices = be a man and model good football for the kid who will take your job....or....be a total dick and well...just be a total dick
Weird - Vikings got Ponder - QB from FSU - what an odd pick and a weird way to have the Favre era over. Tavaris Jackson Slap in the Face Part 10
WOW Fairley to Detroit. Suh and Fairley....right after Ponder. AKA...Ponder is going to DIE
Pats up.....here we go!!!
And....NATE SOLDER....OT/Colorado
zzzzzz
So we traded Richard Seymour for Nate Solder - right?
Phil Taylor from Baylor -one of the largest guys I have ever seen drafted. Huge.
no safeties or running backs chosen out of the first 21. And one linebacker
Peyton Hillis announcing the Brown pick. Thanks Jesus Christ first, then his fans for voting him for the cover of the Madden game. A funny transition. Either way, well done and I'd LOVE to see players from current teams announce picks rather than the commish.
Anthony Castonzo = TOTAL YAHOO. Man...what an awkward Baby Huey celebration (unaware of his own size and strength)
My take on Solder:
Solder is one of the premier left tackle prospects in this class with the size, strength and athleticism needed to succeed on Sundays. Very sound in pass protection, not as susceptible to the bull rush as you might think given his leaner build, just needs to continue to develop his game against complete pass rushers with a vast array of skills and moves. Very complete in the running game as well, firing off the ball, gaining leverage and moving his feet inline and in space. Understands assignments, locates his man at the second level or on the edge and recognizes and reacts to blitz packages. A true first-round talent.
It is very similar to NFL.com's take on Solder....I think they copy and pasted from me.
Chris Berman seems to despise Jon Gruden
So do I. I hate him more and more each time I see him on TV and listen to him open his yap.
would be wild if the pats took Carimi too
WHAT???? The Ravens passed? What the hell is going on?
Rumor of Past might be making a deal with the 49ers, who want Dalton.
Past = Pats
Is it me or is Mark Ingram fat?
Ingram does look fat. Pats trade to Saints?
Pats tomorrow = 3 second round picks (33, 56, 60)
Rumors of the NFL is slowing down the announcing of picks for TV purposes.
I HATE trading down. I was really hoping to trade up and get some premier talent.
I thought for sure this was the year they would trade up...or at least stay pat and take Ingram. They are going to regret not taking him.
Do we keep trading down until Brady is completely past his prime?
Pats may be able to get a ton for the 33rd (aka next pick) with the amount of time teams have to think through trades
I could care less about Ingram compared to how badly I want a pass rush. DEs and OLBs NOW
I just need to see the Pats draft someone who destroys a QB next year
I was hoping they would trade up for Fairly and it looks like they didn't have to trade up that high to get him.
