Boston College Shows Skinner the Door

Athletic director Gene DeFilippo has opted to cut ties with the coach that has amassed more wins than any other in Boston College history, firing Al Skinner after a 13-year run as the Eagles basketball boss. Skinner's tenure at The Heights included 7 tournament appearances, but only 1 in the past 3 years. His record of 247-165 with BC wasn't enough to save him after a 15-16 campaign this past season. Having earned the 2001 National Coach of the Year and 2001 and 2005 Big East Coach of the Year awards, Skinner certainly has reason to feel good about his time in Chestnut Hill. Among the standout players to thrive under Skinner's tutelage were Troy Bell, Craig Smith, Jared Dudley and Tyrese Rice. Rumors have Cornell's Steve Donahue, Richmond's Chris Mooney, Harvard's Tommy Amaker and former Skinner assistant Ed Cooley of Fairfield all as candidates to be the next BC basketball choice. For now, here's congratulating Coach Skinner on a nice run with the Eagles and best of luck in his future endeavors.

Really good article about the Skinner firing by Chris Gasper. Basically states BC has overrated itself and is nothing more than a stepping stone job for a guy like Donahue or an end job for a guy like Skinner....and they opted to get rid of Skinner.

They will either have Donahue for 3 years or Skinner for 13....
