In last week's edition of the New England Patriots Weekly Post we took a look at Vince Wilfork, the most high profile potential free agent for the Pats this off season. So this week let's take a look at who else could be exiting Foxboro via free agency this year. Offense: RB-Kevin Faulk; TE-Benjamin Watson; OG-Logan Mankins and Stephen Neal. Defense: DL-Jarvin Green; LB-Derrick Burgess, Tully Banta-Cain, Pierre Woods and Eric Alexander; CB-Leigh Bodden. Special Teams: PK-Stephen Gostokowski; P-Chris Hanson. The players I would concentrate on bringing back are Faulk, Mankins, Bodden and Gostkowski. I would keep Woods and Alexander for modest deals befitting special teamers. I would keep Banta-Cain unless he receives the type of deal that caused him to leave for New England the first time he was in the situation. I think Watson and Green are good guys likely to be overpaid elsewhere. Neal is simply not healthy often enough to make a real commitment to. Hanson has got to go (please!). As for Burgess, he is the biggest wild card in my book. He doesn't seem like a very effective player or teammate, and yet Bill Belichick was raving about him by the end of the year. I'd prefer they keep TBC if they were choosing among the two players, but I'm not sure the boss agrees. Should be interesting.....Also this week: Is recently reinstated ex-Patriot Donte Stallworth worth brining in for a workout?.....Should the Pats be looking at position or "best player" in the upcoming draft?.....Something tells me Matt Light may be done in New England.....these and any other issues involving our favorite football team are open for discussion right here!.....

Excluding our free agents, here is who our starting defense would be at the moment:
DE- Ty Warren
DT- Mike Wright
DE- Myron Pryor
OLB-Rob Ninkovich
ILB-Jerod Mayo
ILB-Gary Guyton
OLB-Adalius Thomas
CB -Shawn Springs
CB -Jonathan Wilhite
SS -Brandon Meriweather
FS -Brandon McGowan
1. Thomas is almost certainly gone and it appears Springs is retiring. They'd be replaced by ? and Darius Butler.
2. Based on this we need upgrades at nearly every position OTHER THAN: Warren, Mayo, Meriweather and McGowan. (I also think Wright would be serviceable).
3. That leaves a minimum of 6 defensive positions that are going to need improvements for the coming year....get to work Bill!!!
The Pats future is most worrisome of all our major teams.
