In this edition of Mid-Week Miscellaneous we take a look at the potential members Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2010. More specifically, we look at former Celtics still waiting for the call: Dennis Johnson and Jo Jo White. Unfortunately both players are once again long shots for induction. Why? Because not only will they be battling former NBA stars Karl Malone and Chris Mullin (to name just two) for votes, but also college and high school coaches, female players and coaches, international players and coaches, owners, broadcasters, referees and probably a mascot or two as well. When will folks realize just how ridiculous this is? Although I grew disgusted with the Basketball Hall of Fame long ago, I will once again keep my fingers crossed for DJ and Jo Jo this year, hoping that a Croatian women's player, a high school coach and a WNBA ref don't get the nod over these NBA greats.....Also this week: The Winter Olympics are finally here!.....The Maple Leafs currently have the 2nd worst record in the NHL, meaning the Bruins would have no worse than the #3 pick in the draft if it were held today.....Daytona 500 this Sunday, which reminds me: a NASCAR driver (Jimmy Johnson) seriously won the AP Athlete of the Year for 2009?.....these and any other issues on your sports mind are open for discussion right here in MWM.....

Slim... but there. I would very much like to see him in. I used to really enjoy going to the games when I was very young and watching him run the offense; which he did so well.
I should have mentioned that I also had my fingers crossed that longtime Celtics announcer Johnny Most would finally get some long overdue respect from the Hall. If they are going to welcome in broadcasters it's a shame he's not already in there.
The Finalists:
Scottie Pippen
Karl Malone
Chris Mullin
Dennis Johnson
Bernard King
Jamaal Wilkes
Don Nelson (as coach)
Tex Winter (as coach)
Bob Hurley (as coach)
Jerry Buss (as contributor)
Vladimir Kondrashin (international; as coach)
Maciel "Ubiratan" Pereira (internationa)
Cynthia Cooper
Harley Redin
Richie Guerin
Gus Johnson
1960 U.S. men's national team
1992 U.S. men's national team
The All-American Redheads (team)
From the nominee list, the most obvious omissions from the finalists were Mark Jackson and Dennis Rodman. Not saying either deserved to be in, but to be a finalist alongside an assistant coach (Tex Winter), high school coach (Bob Hurley), an international player and coach, a woman's player, etc, would not have been unreasonable.
Bob Hurley, as a coach. Is that the Hurley I'm thinking of or another one? if so where is he coaching?
How many are they allowed to take?
there were only about 5 last year and you gotta figure Malone and Pippen are givens.
haha, just read the final comment about Hurley (different Hurley).
