Celts Notes: Bye, Bye Baby?

In this edition of the Boston Celtics Weekly Post we look at the rumors of the Celtics potentially trying to trade Glen Davis, with the hottest rumor having him dealt to the Bobcats for point guard D.J. Augustin. On the surface it may seem odd to trade a talented big man for a struggling backup guard, but this may be an attempt by Danny Ainge at addition by subtraction. When Rajon Rondo recently spoke about the feel of the locker room being different than it was 2 years ago, I tried to figure out why. The bulk of the nucleus is still intact and there have been no stories of newcomers like Rasheed Wallace being a negative force. The most logical culprit, especially after recent comments about not getting touches, is Davis. He has proven his immaturity this season with the off court injury suffered during a fight with a friend, and then being fined after using vulgarity toward a taunting fan in Detroit. During the championship run he was an energy player off the bench happy to be in the NBA, but after playing well in last playoffs he seems unhappy with a reduced role due to the return of Kevin Garnett as well as the addition of Wallace. Clearly he's not handling this frustration well, and as a result it may be time to not just say bye to Davis' Big Baby nickname, but to Big Baby himself.....Also this week: Rajon Rondo will participate in the H-O-R-S-E competition during All Star Weekend.....Am I the only one that missed Lester Hudson getting waived?.....This week's game: at Hornets (Wednesday).....these and any other issues involving our favorite basketball team are open for discussion right here!.....

Kendrick Perkins today was named to the 27-man preliminary roster for this summer's World Championships and the 2012 Olympic team. Ex-Celtics Al Jefferson and Chauncey Billups were also named. Both Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo left off.

Although it will be difficult for Perk to get chosen it's nice to see that he is finally being recognized as a top defensive center in the league.

I am surprised that Rondo is left off of the roster.

I have never seen the HORSE competition, is it any good? If it involves shooting then there is no way Rondo can win. They other 2 should just take a few free throws to start to knock Rondo out.

Ainge today denied that any talks have taken place with Charlotte. He did admit to liking Augustin (who was awesome in college for Texas) but said "we like our guy a lot too".

He did say that he'd like to "tweek" the team, not make a blockbuster deal...which I believe translates to Glen Davis being way more likely to be dealt than Ray Allen.

What do you think of Ray and a #1 for Nocioni and Martin of Sac?

I'd love to see Baby gone. Don't we miss Leon Powe now? But I've also been wondering about Doc, frankly. He seems tired and a bit resigned to losing. He's been saying things like he wants the All-Star break to be longer, that he's glad he's not coaching it, that he wishes he could take a year off, etc. I'd be tired too, but I'm just wondering whether that's part of the malaise on the team.
