B's Notes: Trade Tim Thomas?

Just a year removed from winning the Vezina Trophy there is talk that the B's are shopping Tim Thomas. What do you think they should do.....this and any other topics involving our favorite hockey team are open for discussion right here as the NHL takes a break for the Winter Olympics.....

What were the terms of the contract that Thomas signed in the offseason? Wasn't it 4 years/$20 million? That might make it very difficult to trade a goaltender who's at the tail end of his career.

If we pay part of his contract in a deal does that still count against our salary cap?

Thomas has a no trade for the first 3 years of the trade, but might waive it for the right team if he isn't going to play.

I think it is against NHL rules to pay part of his contract. The NHL rules are pretty strict about salary, trades, and the salary cap. I like that they are strict and people can't play with the cap, but i know that some people hate it and think it restricts trades.

By the way, I think Thomas has played fairly well this year and should not be blamed for most of the troubles this year. He is still a top 10 goalie, but it is unfair to ask him to win every game 2-1 or 1-0.

Sean, I am going to print out and save that compliment forever. Was that a belated Valentine's gift for me?

On this date, 38 years ago, the Boston Bruins traded Reggie Leach and two other players to the Califoria Golden Seals for defenseman Carol Vadnais and one other player.

Although, Vadnais helped the Bruins win their second Stanley Cup in three year (and also their last one), they gave up a very talented sniper in Leach.

Leach was the Bruins top pick in the 1972 draft (#3 overall)and after two years with the Seals he ended up in Philly where he blossomed into one of the top scorers in the league.

This was not a great trade for the Bruins, but was it the worst trade the Bruins ever made? What was worse? Esposito? Bourque? Thorton? Moog (for Jon Casey!)?
