In a recent edition of Thinking Logically we reminded Red Sox fans that in order for the Sox to compete for the 2010 World Series the team would need to make some significant improvements. Theo Epstein seems to be making an attempt to downplay expectation for the 2010 Sox, stating that only a limited number of players are actually in their prime, and there will be a gap between the old nucleus (i.e. David Ortiz) and the next wave of talent (i.e. Lars Anderson). However, the current crop of Sox can still be a viable contender to win it all (and isn't that the point?) with the addition of another ace pitcher. Preferably this would be Roy Halladay (a longtime favorite of RBSF), but adding Felix Hernandez (via trade) or John Lackey (via free agency) would work as well. That would potentially make Josh Beckett a #3 starter on next year's team, a thought that would certainly send chills down the spines of any opponent. So do the right thing Theo....keep us in contention by bringing another big arm to Boston!

They only way I wouldn't do a deal for Halladay or shell out big bucks for Lackey is if Theo legitimately thought that the 2010 Sox wouldn't win the World Series even with them...though I'm not sure how that could be the case.
Something tells me we end up eating Lowell's contract (or most of it) and signing Adrian Beltre as well...though that is another discussion for another day.
Less than a couple of weeks ago you weren't very hot on Lackey, what changed?
This always happens....Sox start the rumors early - establish the market - then the yanks swoop in. Just make it happen Sox!
