Mid-Week Miscellaneous

As always there is plenty to discuss in this week's edition of Mid-Week Miscellaneous.....This Saturday Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto will meet in the type of boxing match we wish wasn't such a rarity in the sport. The winner (hopefully) will meet Floyd Mayweather, meaning we should get at least get 1 mega-fight per year.....We're hoping the BCS writes some sincere apology letters to Cincinnati, Boise State and TCU if any/all remain undefeated and don't get a shot at a national title.....Did Jay Cutler just have the worst 300-yard passing game of all-time or the best 5-interception game of all-time?....It feels like the 2010 Winter Olympics are approaching fast and receiving very little fanfare. Apparently folks remember the snooze fest from '06.....these and any other topics on your sports mind are open for discussion here in MWM.....

Pacquiao beat Cotto by TKO in Round 12. Hopefully they can work something out between Pac Man and Floyd and get boxing back on the map with a fight (trilogy?) people care about.

BCS seems headed for a joke finish...minimum of 1 undefeated will be left in the cold. How can that be justified year after year?

Jay Cutler = Yuck! Bet Josh McDaniels enjoyed all 5 of them.

Winter Olympics....I'm looking forward to hockey and hopefully not hearing about Bode Miller every 5 seconds. I seriously hated the 2006 Winter Olympics and I don't remember ever feeling that way about an Olympiad prior to that one.

First he was just giving the Colts every bit of credit in the on-field post game interview, not acknowledging at all that it was an unintelligent play call by our team - but now in the off-field press conference, Peyton is being really smug. And cocky, laughing etc.

What a punk.

I still believe winning is the ultimate criteria, and he has a good deal more of that to do before he approaches Brady.

NBA Rookie, Brandon Jennings, drops 55 Pts. the other night against Golden State Warriors. Jennings is the kid who some may remember last year took his game over to Italy to play, when he couldn't fulfill NCAA requirements. (This was an unprecedented move for a what would have been a straight from high school NBA Rookie just a few years ago, before NBA Rules were altered to prevent such a move). Apparently last year there were talks that he wasn't as good as people expected him to be, when he wasn't getting the playing time, or stats many expected him to get against European competition. Sounds pretty good to me!

NFL Rookie, Jairus Byrd, of the Buffalo Bills (Free Safety) has 8 Interceptions this season, including one in each of the last 5 games. Amazing! It's only Week 10 and I don't care if he plays for the Bills, that is a great start to hopefully a long career.
