Boston Red Sox Weekly Post

As always, there is plenty to talk about in this edition of the Boston Red Sox Weekly Post....Captain Jason Varitek picked up his $3 million player option, meaning he'll be back in Boston for a 13th season in 2010. Let's hope he's able to go out on a higher note than he would of if '09 was the end of his Red Sox run.....19-year old shortstop Jose Iglesias, signed by the Sox in July after defecting from Cuba, is impressing scouts with his play in the Arizona Fall League.....Despite not picking up the $6 million option on Alex Gonzalez it appears there is still a chance of bringing him back next season at a discounted rate....No Red Sox won a Gold Glove this year, but we can't imagine it will be much longer before Jacoby Ellsbury earns his first.....these and any other topics regarding our favorite baseball team are open for discussion right here.....

I like having Tek back...I'm hoping he gives up pinch hitting and is only used against lefties.

Will be interesting to see who catches Wake, assuming he's back.

Iglesias has been compared favorably defensively to Ozzie Smith. Seriously.

Gold Gloves are a joke...but I still root for the Sox to take home a few, when deserved. Ichiro and Torii Hunter could sit in reclining chairs until they retire and still win every year.

Rumors circulating that the Sox are going to at least kick the tires on Lackey. Good move.
