College Spotlight: Kyle Havens

In this week's edition of College Spotlight we feature Kyle Havens of UMass. The junior is in his first year as a starter, replacing his record-breaking successor Liam Coen. The Havens-era got off to a very rocky start in Amherst as he was just 10-for-24 for 102 yards, 1 TD and 2 interceptions in their seasoning opening loss to Kansas State. Considering the Minutemen lost just 21-17 to the Big-12 school, it's conceivable that Havens play prevented UMass from knocking off the BCS school. But impressively Havens did not let a poor opener crush his confidence. Since the Kansas State game, Havens has led the Minutemen to 3 consecutive victories and a #14 FCS ranking. In those last 3 games he has passed for a combined 872 yards with 4 touchdowns and 4 picks. If Havens continues to improve, and stays away from turnovers, things will be looking quite bright in Amherst for the next two years.

What happened to Liam Coen? Is he playing in Canada?

UMass lost the opener to K-State by a score of 21-17, but have won three straight since then. In each of those wins they have scored 44,30, and 44 points, so clealy Mr Havens has some skills.

Clearly the FCS is a better fit for him than the BCS.

Liam Coen isn't in the CFL...I couldn't find anything on him anywhere.
