College Spotlight: Coach Frank Spaziani

In this week's edition of College Spotlight we change gears and focus on a coach: Boston College boss Frank Spaziani. After the sudden firing of Jeff Jagodzinski in January, the 61-year old was promoted from his job as the Eagles defensive coordinator, a position he had held since 1999. After wins over Northeastern and Kent State to start the season, Coach Spaz's squad was handled easily by Clemson in their ACC opener last Saturday, losing 25-7. He has already come under criticism for his handling of the quarterbacks, alternating Justin Tuggle and David Shinskie so far this season. In Death Valley he stuck with Tuggle for the most part and freshman finished 4-for-20 for 23 yards, 1 TD and 3 interceptions. Spaziani is going to need to figure out a way to produce more of an offensive attack quickly or this will be a very long ACC season for BC, and their coach's rookie campaign could end up being one to forget.

The AD said when he fired Jags that he wanted somebody that would honor their contract. That would make it look really bad if BC didn't honor their end of things, which means Jags may be around for 5 years regardless of how the Eagles perform.

Although he's been a defensive coordinator, he was also the running backs coach when Mike Cloud was at The Heights, so he does have some offensive knowledge....he needs to start using it!

I think it is going to take a while for BC to put themselves back on the map for a few reasons:
1. What big recruits did Jags land in his short tenure?
2. UConn seems to be landing a lot of the big talent in New England
3. With a subpar year it is going to make it that much more difficult to recruit.

I would say we are at least 3-5 years away from having BC compete in the ACC again.
