In this week's edition of Free Agent Friday we look at Marquis Daniels, the free agent G/F who verbally agreed to sign with the Celtics weeks ago, but has yet to actually do so. The hold up seemed to stem from the hope that Boston would work out a sign-and-trade with his former team, the Indiana Pacers, that could get Daniels some extra dough while at the same time getting Indiana something in return for his services (and perhaps ridding the C's of a player as well). However it appears the teams are simply not able to come to terms and now it seems Daniels may simply sign with Boston for less money than he'd originally hoped. The versatile 28-year old averaged career bests with 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds for Indiana last year. In 6 seasons split evenly between the Mavs and Pacers, Daniels has averaged 9.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists. The 6'6" Daniels could provide minutes in relief of both Paul Pierce and Ray Allen, and bring added flexibility off the bench (not to mention injury protection) for Doc Rivers and the C's. Let's get this done already!

Yeah, it does seem to be a piece sorely needed. (As much as a tremendous team sorely needs anything).
Relief... quality relief for Ray and PP will be particularly important this year.
