The Red Sox (47-30) do not have to wait long to seek revenge against the Orioles (35-43) for last night's 10-run comeback win by Baltimore as the teams play an afternoon game in today's series finale. Josh Beckett (9-3, 3.48 ERA) gets the start for the Sox. Boston's ace has not allowed an earned run in 4 of his last 5 starts, and hopes for another quality performance today to give the bullpen some needed rest. Baltimore counters with rookie Brad Bergesen (5-2, 3.76 ERA) who is coming off of an impressive month of June of his own: 3-0, 2.23 ERA. The O's Nick Markakis (.300, 8 HR, 50 RBI) drove in the winning run last night, and continues to make a push to make his first All Star team, so shutting him down today will be a big step in the right direction for Boston's pitchers. Let's go Red Sox!

Not a swell start, 1-0 Orioles...on Pie's double-turned-sac fly
sonavabitch...Luke Scott has a homer off Beckett....2-0...
2 dynamite fielding plays...end the inning...2-0 O's still
we're gonna need another bat
Nick Green just got robbed of a hit...fuckin outfielder dropped it ...but the umps didn't see it...
We need Dunn
or Victor Martinez
2-1 Pedroia double - but thrown out as the 3rd out at 3rd base. Not watching live - but that is bad baseball on paper as youk was due with RISP
Nice D-Peds gets thrown out at third for no reason trying to stretch a double into a triple...but knocks in a run, 2-1 Os
I think it was the third base coach...
..Nope, not his fault. The outfielder bobbled it, and Pedroia thought he could make it...wrong
this Robert Andino character is a pain in the ass.
btw - Sox leaders in hits this year:
1) Pedroia - 90 (or 91 after the double?)
2) Ellsbury - 88
3) Lowell - 75
4) Bay - 74
5) Youk - 70
beckett in a jam here. 0 outs. 1st and 3rd.
he has no Ks - which shows that he is a bit off today with his stuff
big K there on Pie. 1 down.
Roberts will definitely be running here for a steal attempt
I wish you could punch an umpire through the TV set...
Masterson and Oki seem like the only RPs not available today
Look for Bard, Ramirez to throw if needed before the 8th
RamRam and Bard have both looked like poo lately...the bullpen in general has been funky
I'd love to have Markakis after Drew's contract is done
shit. Double. 2 runs in (8 pitch at bat)
4-1 Os
friggin' orioles, pissin me off
positives right now for Sox
1) Lester looks amazing
2) Penny is solid
3) Wake is giving more than expected
4) Smoltz is on track to be better than Dice K
5) Ellsbury is very consistent
6) Tek, Youk, Papi Drew all hitting well recently (and Pedroia - kind of)
----Bay and Nick Green are ice cold last 7 days.
beckett needs to get out of this inning at 4-1
1st and 3rd....
beckett getting squeezed
phew. Inning over. Those pesky O's
4-1. Beckett has 66 pitches after 3.
Youk,Bay, Papi - at least one of you, please get an RBI this inning.
i hate this umpire...i want beckett/vtek to let a high fastball get away from them and hit him in the mask
Nope. Sox down in order...let's wish for a quick Beckett inning...the guy won't go long today
LEadoff, Ty Wigginton homer...Beckett is wiggin' yall
Bay is 0 for 2 today with two strikeouts.
Since going 4 for 6 with a HR and 3 RBS again Washington on June 23 Bay has gone 2 for 27 (0.074) with no home runs, 1 RBI and he has struck out 11 times. OUCH!
Might be time to drop Bay in the order or start Rocco Baldelli.
Bay just needs a day off I think
beckett 98 pitches through 6. 5-1 Os.
who knows if last night's loss is having a carry over effect?
bay looks so lost right now
we look flat. I hope we can muster some late inning offense to wake us up from this odd/off approach
how about a nice brawl or something?
Brad Bergeson - maybe he is the real deal? Although Jeremy Guthrie had this ability against the Sox not too long ago and he now stinks
GREAT FIGHT!!! TIE GAME IN 9TH
ROCCO COMES THROUGH!
Bard is amazing. 2 IP 4 K.
Let's go Ram Ram!!!
5-5
NICE!!! WHIFFS ROBERTS! Huge
Top 11
Jacoby, Jeff, Julio
HUGE double by Jacoby to start!
LUGO COMES THROUGH!!!!
one of the best wins of the year by far. We were dead all game and last night was awful.
Baldelli, Ellsbury, Youk, Bard, Ram Ram, and Papelbon were so good in such specific instances.
However...gotta give it to Lugo for the game winning single. Definitely will get an ovation at Fenway
Papelbon is the all time saves leader now
