The Red Sox (34-24) battle the Yankees (34-24) tonight at Fenway with 1st place in the AL East at stake. Boston took the opener 7-0 last night behind a brilliant performance from Josh Beckett and are now 7-0 on the season against New York. Tim Wakefield (7-3, 4.50 ERA) looks to make it 8 straight for the Sox this evening, and he'll face off with the Yanks Chien-Ming Wang (0-3, 14.46 ERA) who is still looking for his first win of the season. David Ortiz is finally showing signs of returning to his usual Big Papi form. Over the past week he is hitting .316 (6 for 19) with 2 HR, 6 RBI and 13 total bases. He also has a 7 game hitting streak. Let's go Red Sox!

Amazing that Toronto is still just 1.5 games out of 1st. I thought for sure they were falling out of it when the Sox swept them.
Roy Halladay has a legit MVP case so far.
Nice photo.
Danny - Publish an article for a statistical case that ortiz did roids and maybe you too can be on espn outside the lines!!!
Great play by Bay!
Nice to get out of the 1st...
No score heading to the bottom of the 1st.
Dave, did I miss something? Was that done by somebody? Or do you really think Ortiz did roids and that that would be a good idea?
Didn't Wang used to be good?
Bases loaded, 2 outs for Kotsay.
There is the whole ibanez controversy based on a bloggers article. Today the blogger was on outside the lines.
Sox up 1-0 BTW on a J.Bay single.
I'm not interested in selling Papi out for my own interests.

UGH!!!!
I might start the Nick Greene fan club!
I am going to do a steroid post...but not about Ortiz.
Just read the blog and was looking for the perfect person that falls in line with his argument....I think I got him.
Sox lead 4-1 after 3.
Lowell HR that inning.
Wang yanked after 2.2. Looked horrible.
Warning, the guy got BLASTED on outside the lines. The other journalists called him irresponsible. Also, keep in mind there is the whole defamation issue.
YOUK!
Arod looks terrible
Nick Green is a Yankee killer!
How good is the timing of Kotsay's arrival? We have 4 OFs that can play center field. Amazing (Drew in emergency)
Sox 6, Yanks 3
Heading to the bottom of the 5th.
6-3 Sox. I am not quite comfortable, yet the game appears that it is in hand. I just reverse jinxed and jinxed at the same time
Has Eck ever defined his use of "cheese" clearly?
Why would pitchers throw anything but curves/sliders to Bay? He just can't hit them
Bay doesn't look good tonight (hit included). Seems like he's not seeing the ball well. (and I typed that before strike 3).
Wake done after 87 pitches. Interesting move to go bullpen
Damon HR 6-4.
back 2 back. Teychera
6-5
Ram Ram having a night to forget so far. We are still winning
clearly Tito will be questioned
Ram Ram has great stuff and his 2 mistake pitches were crushed. Every other pitch has been solid
Oki vs. Matsui with Jorge on 1st
good game. I'm stressed
Orsillo just said " got to credit Phil Hughes for keeping Yanks in game"......he gave up a 2 run HR to Youk which is why they are losing still.
WOW!!! great catch by Swisher who was an early goat
shit. Leadoff walk by Oki. Terrible
Nice bunt melki!
How the hell do the Yanks have the go-ahead run on base? Feels like we're up by 5.
bunted over
Teixeira = 4 for 4, 2 R, HR, RBI
HUGE K of Jeter!
I love when Oki looks good.
(I also love his intro music)
This at bat is the key to the game. Get DAMON NOW
walk the next 2 and set up ARod vs Paps!
my last 2 posts totally contradict
Oki was incredible
Next half inning:
Paps vs. Texeira
Paps vs. ARod
Paps vs. Cano
Could you pay me to turn the tv off next 1/2 inning?
NOPE
Welcome back Kottaras!
Nice to see George contributing at the plate. Now let's drive him home! An insurance run would be huge.
CBS Sportsline doesn't have Paps listed as being in the Sox bullpen. Got me nervous for a sec.
Ortiz is the only Sox without a hit, but even he has reached base 2 of 4 times with 2 BB, so everyone is contributing (except for Ramon Ramirez that is)
Man did Orsillo overreact to that Youk fly out to CF.
Heading to the 9th, 6-5 Red Sox
Why is Paps throwing breaking balls out of the zone?
good at bat by ARod
this is the 2009 Paps. Nothing 1-2-3
yet super consistent at closing games.
Like a closing version of Dice K last year
hilarious sell attempt by Pedroia! Blogger Freds would be proud
2-2 vs cano. Runner on 2nd. 1 out
Come on!
WHIFFED HIM!
Posada vs. Paps for the game.
a lot of pine tar on Posada's bat
2-1
full count.
Here we go
YES! Sox win 6-5
Nice victory!
FINAL SCORE
Red Sox 6, Yankees 5
PLAYER OF THE GAME
JD DREW
1-2, 2 R, 3 BB
..Oki easily could have been player of the game too.
