Sox Report: Game 52 vs Tigers

The Red Sox (29-22) head to Detroit tonight to take on the Tigers (28-21). Boston has failed to win 3 consecutive series (0-2-1) and are 3-4 to start their 10 game road trip. They are now 1 game behind the Yankees for 1st place in the AL East. Boston's Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-3, 8.82 ERA) gets the start for the Sox, and is still searching for his first win of the season. He'll be opposed by Detroit's rookie Rick Porcello (6-3, 3.48 ERA), a winner of 5 straight starts and one of the early front runners for AL Rookie of the Year. A key for both pitchers will be trying to slow down two of the AL's top 1st basemen in Boston's Kevin Youkilis (.366, 9 HR, 31 RBI) and Detroit's Miguel Cabrera (.355, 10 HR, 37 RBI). Let's go Red Sox!

Dice-K is (over)due for a win...Sox romp tonight. Papi breaks out with 2 HR...heard it here first!

dustroia with a first inning double, then gets home on a single by Drew...1-0 Sox

YazDay said...

Yikes-K with a lead off walk...swell

DK said...

The move to hit Pedroia leadoff looked good in the 1st. Always nice to get on the board first, especially on the road.

YazDay said...

Migs Cabrera singles in the runner on third...1-1

YazDay said...

Yeah, Peds isn't bad as a leadoff

YazDay said...

Dude...why is Van Slyke the first base coach? Oh...Leyland, right.

DK said...

I'm surprised NESN didn't get Alan Trammell in the booth after the Rance Mulliniks performance in Toronto.

Nice to have the Eck back.

DK said...

Cabrera is awesome.

1-1 after the 1st.

YazDay said...

Bases loaded for the SOX with 1 out...

YazDay said...

and nothing comes of it

DK said...

Not scoring with a man on 3rd and less than 2 outs is always inexcusable in my book.

DK said...

It was nice to see Papi get a hit his first time up though.

Dice-K is borderline torturous to watch when he's effective, nevermind when he's not (ie this entire season)

Watching Dice K pitch is like waiting for AOL circa 1994 to connect to the Internet or what fucking ever it cunting was at the time.

Its like everytime the Egg Roll throws a pitch you need to have that Dial Tone / Fax Noise prior to him thorwing it.

DK said...

Record for wild pitches in a season is 63 by Bill Stemmeyer in 1886 for the Boston Beaneaters.

DK said...

Dice-K gets out of it, 1-1 after 2.

YazDay said...

super embarrasing...thomas from the Tigers just walked to first on a 3-2 count, then had to walk back...what a dickbag

YazDay said...

then strikes out...ha

DK said...

The top 87 totals for Wild Pitches in a season were all done 1905 or earlier.

The "modern" record would be Tony Cloninger (former Sox pitching coach and the only pitcher to hit 2 grand slams in a game) with 27 in 1966.

YazDay said...

Drew is digging the 2 spot...base it to lead off, 2-2 on the noche

DK said...

Only way Thomas even semi-saves face is if he walked on the next pitch.

DK said...

I love Drew (and I do realize I'm in the minority)

Will be at the next 2 games - right behind the plate in Detroit.

Way Back and gone biatches

WHAT A BOMB! J.BAY COMING THROUGH AGAIN!

DK said...

Dude better watch himself...high & tight on Lowell the pitch after a bomb. Rookie got some balls.

DK said...

Nothing like an E-6 to frustrate an already frustrated pitcher.

DK said...

Ortiz will hit this 500 feet.

YazDay said...

The kid has nice stuff though...Porcello.

..and DK, I too like Drew...

Another long batting, with bad results.

This pitching strategy (with Dice K) needs to be adjusted.

MDC is quietly doing a great job this year.

DK said...

One lousy part of Dice-K only lasting 5 is that you are basically relying on 4 guys (1 inning each) to perform well in order to win. Asking a lot of the bullpen.

Luke said...

Oki's good.

Luke said...

Jacoby catches the Pop Out.

End of Inning.

Dave said...

Papelbon with another adventure ...I will be honest, I am worried about him over the longer term.

I dont think he has enough pitches to keep hitters off balance. He just throws hard fastballs...Needs another pitch.

DK said...

Papelbon is clearly just trying to make this as stressful as possible.

DK said...

Paps loads the bases then strikes out the side....crazy.
