Bruins Re-Sign David Krejci

The Bruins announced yesterday that they have locked up restricted free agent David Krejci to a 3-year deal worth $11.25 million. Clearly extending DDK's stay in Boston was priority #1 for Peter Chiarelli this offseason, and rightfully so. This past season the 23-year old broke out as a budding star in just his second full NHL season. Krejci played in all 82 regular season games, scoring 22 goals and adding 51 assists for 73 points. He also had a plus/minus of +37, best in the entire NHL, and won the Bruins 7th Player Award. Although Krejci is slated to have hip surgery tomorrow, the Bruins clearly are not overly concerned with his prospects for a complete recovery, and Krejci has indicated he plans on being in the B's lineup for the season opener. While Chiarelli will now focus his attention on re-signing restricted free agents Phil Kessel, Matt Hunwick and Byron Bitz, fans can breathe a sigh of relief that DDK will not be heading anywhere anytime soon. Nice to have Dangerous David Krejci as a Bruin for 3 more years (at least)!

$3.75/year seems like a bargain for a player that looks to be, at worst, a solid #2 center. Plus, obviously, there is no telling how much better he could be...but I'm glad we'll be finding out while he's wearing black and gold.

Also, I bought a Krejci shirt during the t-shirt, so I'm happy that isn't a throwback shirt after wearing it to only 1 game.

Sweet proofreading JBS.

Should have said "bought a Krejci shirt during the playoffs".

Great signing. Glad to get this tied up early in the off season. The Bruins face some tough decisions with salary cap issues. There is word of the cap going down next year which is not going to help.
I have got to imagine that at least one of the following will not be back next year:
Savard
Kessell
Bergeron

From Krejci:

"I'd like to say thanks for getting the deal done," Krejci said. "It was a great year for me. I had so much fun with the guys. So many good people worked with me during the season. I'm happy to be a Bruin for the next few years. I'd like to thank the organization and Peter Chiarelli for getting the deal done."

From Thursday...

David Krejci, who earlier this week signed a three-year deal with the Bruins worth $3.75 million per season, today underwent surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York to remove what GM Peter Chiarelli referred to as an impingement in one of his hips.

According to Chiarelli, reached by phone in his Causeway St. office, surgeons successfully removed the the burr-like impingement via arthroscopy.

''In the old days, it would have been a far more major, invasive operation,'' noted Chiarelli. ''But they were able to noodle the scope into the joint and knock out the impingement fairly easily.''

Nonetheless, reiterated Chiarelli, Krejci will need at least four months for surrounding cartilage to repair itself for the 23-year-old pivot to return to the lineup. It is possible that he will miss the first few weeks of the regular season.

''It takes a long time to recover,'' said Chiarelli, informed by doctors that the impingement caused only limited damage to the layer of of cartilage that lines and cushions the hip joint. ''But in the old days, it would have been at least twice as long.
