With their 2-1 victory last night, the Red Sox (23-16) are now just one game behind the division leading Blue Jays (27-15), their opponent again tonight, in the loss column. Boston is hoping that starter Brad Penny (3-1, 6.69 ERA) can give them half of the dominant performance Tim Wakefield did yesterday. Given that Penny has failed to go more than 6.1 innings in any of his 7 starts, while allowing 3+ runs in all of them, it seems he is certainly due for a lights out performance for the Sox. Toronto sends Brett Cecil (2-0, 1.80 ERA) to the mound, who looks impressive 3 starts into his major league career. Kevin Youkilis returns from the 15-day DL for Boston tonight after a brief rehab stint with Pawtucket. Out since May 4, Youk hopes to provide an instant boost to the Sox offense. He was leading the league in hitting (.393) prior to his injury, and it would be huge if he can pick up where he left off. Let's go Red Sox!

With Youk back in the lineup the Sox REALLY need to start thinking about moving Ortiz back in the lineup if his slump continues.
If he doesn't get his act together by the weekend I say drop him down to 7th.
JBS, I think I can top your George Brett YouTube video from yesterday with another one from Brett's greatest hits...

Catching up with the Sox in the bottom of the third.
Jay's starter, Cecil, dives for a Ellsbury bunt and damn near separates his shoulder. Play is halted while they put the scarecrow back together.
First and third Sox, no outs.
Pedroia GIDP to score another run...2-0
Papi whiffs on 3 pitches
amazing Brett video. GROSS
Pedroia hits a grounder to second, which turns into a double play, but it brings the runner from third home. Sox up 2-0.
Papi strikes out to end the third.
JBS, remarkaly steady contribution from a guy on the left coast. Do you subscribe to the MLB package?
Jays go in order in the top of the fourth. Nice work by Penny that inning.
I have the game online only - but I do have the MLB package at home...where I will hopefully be in 20 mins
is Cecil a lefty or righty?
Cecil is a lefty.
Who hold the major league single season record for hitting into double plays?
HR by Tek. Second of the night!
Brad Ausmus? Brian Downing? Jim Rice?
VARTIEK ANOTHER BOMB!
Get Tek a urine test ASAP
Brad Ausmus, awesome! Did you know he doesn't like his relatives?
Ellsbury, flying around the bases on a hit by Pedrioa, but thrown out at the plate.
Papi finally gets the monkey off his back! HR!!!!
THERE IT IS!!!!!!
Sox are just teeing off on Cecil now. Youk with a rope into left for a single.
The answer to the trivia question was Jim Rice.
Big Papi - YES. I loved the wave to the crowd...such a strong hit too.
Bay clears everything with a blast over the green monster.
The Youk's comeback is so huge for us...and perhaps for Papi too
Surprised Cecil is still in there. He's just serving up BP at this point.
And now Lowell jacks one!
This is sweet. Suck our nuts first place Canadians
JayBay is having a career year, no question
Rocco with the triple, nice
Apparently, Mrs. Duffman feels pretty secure about the 8-0 lead and has commandeered the TV to watch Idol. Guess I'll be watching the rest from the basement.
I guess this also means no more sympathy from my knee surgery. Oh well, it was a good five day run.
PLease take Penny out...no reason to leave him in here
FINAL SCORE
RED SOX 8, BLUE JAYS 3
PLAYER OF THE GAME
JASON VARITEK
2-3. 2 R, 2 HR, 2 RBI, BB
