Sox Report: Game 28 vs Indians

After finishing off their fifth straight over the Yankees last night, the Red Sox (17-10) return home to host the Indians (10-17). The Sox are banged up at the moment with Kevin Youkilis leaving Monday's game with a bad back and Jacoby Ellsbury exiting last night with a hamstring spasm. Hopefully the Sox can stay healthy enough to take down the Tribe, who they took 2-of-3 from in Cleveland last time they met. Justin Masterson (2-1, 4.47 ERA) tries to rebound from his first poor outing of the year, and will be opposed by Cleveland's Carl Pavano (1-3, 7.46 ERA). So far Pavano is proving to be no more effective for the Indians than he was in pinstripes, and red hot J.Bay and company will try to make sure things stay that way. Let's go Red Sox!

Hopefully Jake & Youk are back in the lineup tonight...but I'd rather they sat for a few days now and avoided missing significant time down the road....it would just be nice if Rocco and Kotsay were around so it didn't look like a PawSox reunion out there.

Red Sox lead the majors in getting HBP with 20. Their pitching also leads the majors in HBPs, beaning 20.

Indians batters are second in majors with 19 HBPs

Indians have been in 13 save opportunities this year...and have only 6 saves. OUCH.

Red Sox have been in 11 save opportunities and have 9 saves.

Indians are tied with 4 others in the majors with 33 double plays turned by the defense

Red Sox have turned only 18 DPs.

Youk & Ellsbury still out of the lineup...just a precaution (I hope).

Bottom of the 2nd, no score...

Double for Lowell...2nd & 3rd no outs. Him and Bay are playing out of their minds.

Jerry Remy had surgery. He has lung cancer I am pretty sure. Sad stuff. I hope he recovers.

Tek walks...bases loaded no outs for Jeff Bailey. Time to be a hero!

Remy's personal note:

In November I had a very small, low-grade cancerous area removed from my lung. I was fortunate that it was discovered at an early stage. Except for the surgery, I required no additional treatments. I left the hospital with a clean bill of health.

Unfortunately, following the surgery, I developed a bad infection further compounded by a case of pneumonia. It was the pneumonia and the infection that set me back. This all happened just as I was leaving for spring training.

In hindsight, it was a mistake to go and I am paying the price for it now. As NESN announced, I am taking a leave of absence so that I can fully recover.

First of all, I would like to thank all of you for the outpouring of concern you have given me recently. I honestly appreciate it. Secondly, I want to emphasize that I am in good shape now.

While physically I have no issues, the past few months have been emotionally draining, and exhausting for both my family and I. Along those lines, I would like to thank NESN and the Red Sox for allowing me to take as much time as I need. I am not certain exactly when I will return, but I will keep you posted. I want to make sure that when I do return I can be with the team all the way to the 2009 World Series!

I hope that by stating all this publicly it will emphasize the dangers of smoking to everyone, especially children. So, once again, I appreciate all your support and I would like to emphasize – if you don’t smoke, don’t start, and if you do smoke, try to quit! I don’t say that lightly because I know how difficult it can be.

Thanks,
Jerry

Wow, that is really sad about Remy. Wouldn't wish that on anyone. Hope he makes a full and quick recovery.

Wow.

Didn't know he smoked.

Double play...run scores, but not a great trade off for the Sox.

Sox 2-1 after 3...

Sox down 5-2 in the top of the 7th.

Hunter Jones replacing Masterson.

LONG HR for DeRosa....2-run shot.

7-2 Indians. Not a good pitch....batting practice fastball to a fastball hitter.

Switched over the the Sox just in time to see Hunter Jones serve up a two run bomb to make it 7-2. Good night, Irene!

Not a fan of the new NESN guy, Cole.

DK, I keep thinking about your article about the jackass fan in front of you at game one of the Bs. Just sad - even more so for the kid. . .

DuffMan said...

It also make me think of the worst sport signs of all times.

DK said...

The just showed a replay of the pitch to DeRose on the strike zone....absolutely dead center at 88 mph....that doesn't get it done in the bigs.

I'm waiting for someone to write "Kathryn, I'd like to be Tappan that ass!"

DK said...

Totally agree about that idiot Duffman....I'm hoping somebody knows him and he makes an appearance on the site.

DuffMan said...

During Bledsoe's first year with the Pats someone had a sign that read" We've BLED for SO long, its time for a DREWfustion." Horrible.

DuffMan said...

Did you ever find out the final thing that got him thrown out? Did Gator39 have any more info on it?

DK said...

7-2 Indians going to the bottom of the 8th....let's make it interesting!
