Sox Report: Game 21 vs Indians

The Red Sox (13-7) look to start up a new win streak after their 11 game run came to an end last night, courtesy of an 8-7 loss to the Indians (8-13). Tonight they seek some revenge when they battle Cleveland in the rubber game of their 3 game series. Boston starter Jon Lester (1-2, 4.88 ERA) is coming off of consecutive strong starts after a slow start to the season. He'll be opposed by the Tribe's Fausto Carmona (1-3, 7.36 ERA) who is still trying to find that form that made him a Cy Young candidate in 2007. Kevin Youkilis (league-leading .414, 5 HR, 13 RBI) and Mike Lowell (.319, 4 HR, 22 RBI) have been hot all year for Boston. But the Sox hottest hitter lately has been Jason Bay (.359, 5 HR, 19 RBI) who is making a man named Manny more an more of a distant memory. Hopefully the offense stays hot and Lester doesn't follow in Brad Penny's footsteps tonight. Let's go Sox!

Lester's only issue his last start vs the Yanks (Friday) was a high pitch count. It knocked him out after 6 despite pitching well. Hopefully tonight he returns to pumping strikes and stops doing the Dice-K impersonation.

John Lester is not sharp tonight. 5 hits, 2 walks, 3 runs so far in 2 innings

5-0 - Shoppach home run

Lester looks really really bad.

You paid for 9 innings and we're going to the 10th! Bonus time.
Oki just broke off a yakker that would have made Uncle Charlie cry!
Is anyone home?

OH MY GOODNESS!!! Jonathan Van Every with a home run to take a 6-5 lead!!!

Just saw that. Good to see the PawSox chipping in tonight. Is Pap available to close?

Jonathan Eugene Van Every - BOMB!
I think he was channeling the power of Eugene Kelley - former skipper of the Brookline local 9.

Just saw an amazing replay of a catch of his earlier in game. WOW.

Definitely the lead for a star

Long out - Paps is grooving the ball lately! DeRosa could be the most underrated player in MLB.
That guy hits every ball hard.

Paps is just not looking anywhere near dominant. Effective overall? Absolutely.

Gotta close this out

blew Shoppach away! That was old school Paps! (is it too early in his career to say anything is old school?)

Good night boys! Only 141 to go!

How about a two seam fastball to close it out instead? Good win for the Sox after falling behind 5-0 in this one they rally back to win it 6-5 in extra innings.

Nice come from behind effort to tie it 5-5 after trailing 5-0, then win it on the JVE bomb in the 11th!

6-5 Sox victory to win the series.

3 Stars...

1.Van Every
2.Ellsbury
3.Lowell
