After nearly 6 hours of selections, Day 1 of the 2009 NFL Draft has finally come to an end. The Patriots ended up trading out of the 1st Round altogether but were still able to add 4 new players in the 2nd round: Patrick Chung (S, Oregon), Ron Brace (DT, Boston College), Darius Butler (CB, UConn) and Sebastian Vollmer (OL, Houston). Let's take a closer look at each.....Chung is considered more of a run stopper than a cover safety. He could contribute in special team immediately. This likely means Rodney Harrison's days in New England are over.....Brace was overshadowed by B.J. Raji at BC but was very solid in his own right. His bulk (330 lb) make idea in the middle of the defensive line against the run.....Butler was considered a potential 1st Round pick by many (including RBSF). Considered the quickest corner in the draft and his athleticism is off the charts.....Vollmer was born in Germany and is the type of agile lineman the Pats have clearly preferred under Belichick. At 6'7" is one of the tallest draftees.....Day 2 begins tomorrow at 10 am with the Pats holding 4 picks in the 3rd round to begin the day.

I would not love these picks if I were Rodney Harrison, Michael Wright, Jonathan Wilhite, Terrence Wheatley or Ryan O'Callaghan (among others).
Looking forward to hearing from these guys.
It's funny watching the draft when the Pats pick. The analysts are literally scared to say anything negative about the Pats, Belichick or their picks.
None of the guys we took on Day 1 were even being considered by the ESPN guys as possible picks at the time (except for Butler) yet they had nothing negative to say.
They actually thought we were going to take Pat White and seemed excited about it...then when the Dolphins took White they bashed them for doing it. Pretty funny.
Do you think any part of Mangini's dealings with the Jets was at all due to his strong commitments to Bret Favre, and just an overall guilt of how he dealt with the Jets? He gave them a QB, and as you pointed out didn't get all that much back.
Would like to see the Pats take Brannan Southerland FB, Georgia on day 2.
So far they've added:
Brandon Tate, WR, N.Carolina (#83)
Tyrone McKenzie, OLB, S.Florida (#97)
The traded their other 2 3rd round picks to Jacksonville & Tennessee for their 2nd rounders next year.
They still have:
#170 (5th)
#207 (6th)
#234 (7th)
#170 & #207 are both compensatory picks, which cannot be traded.
Draft is currently at #108, so nothing will be happening (likely) for quite a while.
It says here(on TV) we have the 232 pick too.
Look out Lonnie Paxton and your stupid snow angel.
