ESPN reported last night, on the late edition of SportsCenter, that the Bruins have come to terms on a multi-year extension with goalie Tim Thomas. No terms were released and they indicated the official announcement would take place this coming weekend. Had he not signed, Thomas would have been an unrestricted free agent following this season. In his 5 seasons in Boston (his only NHL home) Thomas has gone 105-73-27 with a 2.64 GAA and .918 Save %. He has 11 career shutouts. This year he leads the NHL in both GAA (2.13) and Save % (.931) while leading the B's to first place in the East. It will be interesting to see the specifics of Thomas' deal, and how this affects the future of top goaltender prospect Tuukka Rask in Boston.

I shouldn't have to say this since it's not April 1 any longer, but this is not a joke.
I wonder if Rask's "freak out" affected this in any way at all. I also wonder if Rask being an understudy for a year (or 2? how long will the extension be?) may be a decent idea to teach him how to be a real pro.
I believe its a 3 yr extention around $13 mil. Good job on part of the B's locking up the 08-09 Vezina Trophy award winner.. There is no question in my mind that he will win this..He should also be considered for the Hart Memorial Trophy but i think thats less likely.
not trying to be a downing but 3 years seems like a bit much. i think this probably means they are planning on trading rask hopefully for a puck moving defenseman
4-years, $20 million....wow!
Not a bad investment so far: 1 game, 1 shutout.
I must admit that when I first saw this I reacted the same way...Wow!..But after sitting back and thinking about it, I think it's a great move...We now have a bonafide #1 goalie which we have not had in quite some time...Who knows what will happen with Rask...Although a great prospect, you never know...Fernandez's salary will be off the books and I think Rask carries like a $3 mil cap number if on the big squad so I wouldn't be surprised if we move him in offseason for a left wing or defenseman.
i heard that this deal will make thomas the 12th highest paid goalie in the nhl. that makes me feel better about the deal. almost seems like a steal even if he backs up rask in the final year
