Weekend Grudge: Unauthentic Jerseys

While at the Bruins game today (sweet win by the way) I saw the most recent model Bruins jersey with "ORR 4" on the back...and I hated it. To review: Celtics who played in the 60's didn't have their names on the jersey, Pats from the 80's didn't represent the Flying Elvis, and Sox home jerseys have never had names on the back. Little kids are exempt from this annoyance, and I even appreciate the attempt to pay tribute to whomever their jersey represents, but c'mon people...representing your Boston sports heroes should not turn into amateur hour. Admittedly this is petty...but things are so good on the Boston sports scene at the moment I have the luxury of being petty.

I don't know who is more annoyed when we go to Fenway...myself by the names on the back of home jerseys in the stands and the old-time players names and numbers on the back of modern away jerseys.....or The Mrs by having to listen to me complain about it.

By the way, runner-up for Weekend Grudge was unnecessary storming of the court in college sports...brought on when Penn State students stormed the court after knocking off #23 Illinois to clinch nothing.

I agree with you DK, nothing I hate more are the white sox home jerseys w/ names on the back....drives me nuts...also the hannah jerseys w/ the new logo. Me personally would rather have the patriots go back to the play red jerseys and pat patriot....so why wouldnt you get a hannah jersey in the red version.

speaking of jerseys - Shawn Thornton of the Bs just made a classy move during a hockey fight in calling over the ref with the dude's shirt was over his head. good stuff.

i actually got a papelbon home jersey 2 birthdays ago with the name on the back. i think i have worn it twice

funny that we all hate this so much. it seems so trivial in a lot of ways but i guess all of this is in a way

What's next? Someone wearing a Cy Young or Tris Speaker jersey with a fabricated number?

This annoys me too. Although I am starting to get annoyed at the NBA for allowing no rhyme or reason to deciding what jerseys teams wear. Miami Heat are wearing black at home - bulls in white on the road. I hate it.
