The Red Sox having just set their rotation for the start of the season helped inspire this edition of Top 5. What if instead of choosing from the 7 (or so) possibilities on the 2009 roster, you were able to select from every Sox starter of the past 25 years? With that pool to pick from, who would be your Top 5 in the Sox starting rotation? My Top 5: 1)Pedro 2)Clemens 3)Schilling 4)Beckett and 5)Lester. Who makes your Top 5?

Lester barely edged Bruce Hurst for the #5 spot in my rotation. I wanted at least one lefty so it boiled down to Hurst vs Lester....and as much as I love Hurst there is no denying Lester's upside on top of what he has already accomplished.
Hurst's best year (1988):
18-6, 3.66 ERA, 217 IP, 166 K
Lester's best year (2008):
16-6, 3.21 ERA, 219 IP, 152 K
1.pedro
2.clemens
3.schilling
4.beckett
5.hurst
lester still needs another solid year or two before he belongs above hurst. seems odd there are only 6 real candidates for 5 spots
1. Clemens
2. Pedro
3. Schilling
4. Beckett
5. Hurst/Lester
I only put Clemens ahead of Pedro because he had more 20 win seasons wit the Sox. I'd be fine with either Clemens or Pedro as my #1. I put Hurst and Lester as the #5 because Hurst doesnt have a winning record in road games and Lester does. Also couldnt leave Hurst off the list since i met him at the library when i was a lil kid.
That's boring. Give me your top 5, but take our The Rocket, Pedro, Schill and Beckett.
1)Wakefield: more wins than everyone that has picthed for the Red Sox ever not named Roger Clemens or Cy Young
2) John Dobson: Like D-Lowe w/out the drama
3) Oil Can Boyd: a poor man's Dwight Gooden...with worse drama = fun times in the 80s.
4) Lester: guts
5) Hurst: more youthful flashbacks
