Rumors are circulating about Jason Taylor possibly ending up with the Pats. Of course these were bound to pop up after Robert Kraft said (in response to the possibility): "Great player. I'm sure that can happen if he wants it." In other words if the 34-year old wants to come to try to win a title, great. If he is looking for a big pay day however, it's not going to happen. Unlike Julius Peppers, who would be converted to outside linebacker (ala LT) in New England, Taylor isn't going to be changing positions. He would take on a Jarvis Green-type role with the Pats...backup defensive end who is a pass rush specialist. While he could certainly help in this role, he will need to decide if he is willing to take a significant pay cut to make it happen. Smart money says the 2006 Defensive Player of the Year winds up in Miami to finish his career where it began, but it's certainly a situation worth keeping tabs on.

When asked if he heard about Kraft's comments Taylor responded:
(from ESPN.com)
"I did hear that. I can't lie," Taylor said Sunday night on the red carpet of an event for the Jason Taylor Foundation at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. "I have not talked to Robert Kraft. We'll leave it at that. Those things will sort themselves out, and hopefully in the near future so I can get back to work.
"But it's great to be wanted. It's great to be wanted. Sure, especially an organization like them or the Dolphins."
jarvis green makes decent money. if we could replace him with taylor for the $2.5 salary he is due this season that would be sweet. i cant imagine jt will get more than that from anyone else
I dunno...
it is the NFL, I wouldn't be surprised at all if J. Taylor got $3 million plus or $4 million plus
& it's not even guaranteed money (which usually inflates the number a bit)
If Taylor wants a title and is willing to take short money and play as a role-player not a star then why not. You really cant go wrong with picking up a guy with his talent. I wont be upset if it he doesnt end up in a Pats uniform and I wont be jumpng for joy if he does.
Jason Taylor today: "It's tough to play for one team for 11 years (Dolphins) and then go and play for your bitter rivals".
This furthers my opinion that he ends up in Miami. Not a bad move since his post-playing life will probably be in South Beach and there are going to be many more endorsement opportunities there if he finishes his career with Miami I'm sure.
True. These days this is about as close as you'll come to seeing a player stay in one place his whole life/career. Think about all the Greats in sports retired in the last 10 years, which of them really stayed with one team? Very, very few.
Jarvis Green was actually really useless last year for the most part. For that reason I'd be for getting Taylor (1-year, $3 million?)...but I agree that I'm also 100% fine if we don't.
