The Celtics battle the Hawks tonight, and folks in Atlanta are certainly looking forward to a game with a team they believe are their new rivals in the East. Certainly a case could be made for as much based on last year's hard-fought 7-game playoff series, but Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo disagrees. When asked how he felt about the Celts/Hawks 'rivalry' Rondo replied: "I don't think much of it really. I don't like to talk trash, but in my eyes it's not really a rivalry. I don't know if anybody else looks at it as a rivalry. People consider Cleveland a rival. We just went 7 with Atlanta, that's about it." Perhaps this will serve as some bulletin board motivation for the Hawks, but I love Rondo's brashness and honesty just the same.

Rondo, intentionally or not, just giving the Atlanta folks a friendly reminder that taking a team to 7 games (and losing) and then that team goes on to win their 17th title (you have none) does NOT make you their rival.
Somehow I have a feeling that this is how the Yankees looked at the Sox for all those years.
i agree the hawks arent rivals and i love rondo for pointing it out. but i dont really consider the cavs rivals either. the lakers and pistons are the only teams i really consider rivals. maybe the knicks too but only because its boston vs new york not because its a good rivalry on the court
