In Case You Missed It: Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Jon Lester has agreed to a 5-year, $30 million extension with the Sox to keep him in Boston through 2013. The Sox reportedly hold a $13 million club option for 2014. Last season JTL was one of the A.L.'s best starters, finishing 16-6 with a 3.21 ERA over 33 starts and tying for the league-lead in shutouts. His breakout season included a no-hitter against the Royals on May 19. He also dominated the Angels in the ALDS, pitching 14 shutout innings over his two starts. Lester joins Kevin Youkilis and Dustin Pedroia as Sox that agreed to extensions over the off-season and gives Boston an affordable ace for the foreseeable future.

Tough not to feel good about this one from every possible angle.
Boston continues to have an awesome offseason without signing any big name players.
As Gammons pointed out, Boston is paying less this year for our potential starters (Beckett, Dice, Lester, Wake, Buchholz, Smoltz and Penny) than NY is for just CC and Burnett. This bodes very well for the future.
Great point, Ruben. We need to remember this all year. Congrats on winning the trivia contest last time.
What's up with Bob Ryan? :
