Since Alex Rodriguez name has leaked as being 1 of the 104 major league players to test positive for steroids in 2003, the question is not if the other 103 names will eventually come out, it's when. The knowledge that Red Sox players past and/or present, perhaps even your favorite Red Sox player, could be among the other 103 that tested positive is what motivates this week's edition of the Top 5. Today's question: Which baseball players would be the Top 5 most disappointing to you if they are revealed to be among the "others"?

My first thought was that the most disappointing would be Sox still on the team...but there are only 3 left from '03: Ortiz, Tek & Wake.
My next thought was that the next biggest disappointment would be guys that were on the Sox in '03 that were part of both the '04 and '07 Championship teams. That added: Manny, Mirabelli and Timlin.
So, my top 5....
5. Pedro Martinez - Would be shocking and a major bummer.
4. Tim Wakefield - If Wake is on 'roids who isn't????
3. Manny - He's gone, but he was the MVP of THE World Series and was HUGE in Boston....I hope it isn't the case.
2. Jason Varitek - Captain on steroids = lead by example?
1. David Ortiz - WAY MORE than anyone else I hope he's not on the list. Would be a major disappointment in so many ways.
Pedro - maybe
Wakefiled - No Fucking Way
Manny - To Stupid to Do Roids
Jason Veritek - 20% Chance don't think so.
David Ortiz. 15% Chance -
Others not on team.
Nomar - Fuck Yes - may not be on the list becuase he was hurt but he was hurt because he was on roids.
Mo Vaughn Oh yea.
Johnny Peskey - Shit yes - did you see him raise that banner??? Just kidding.
It would be simply amazing if Wakefield was on that list.
5) Manny Ramirez - would diminish the fact that he was the best Red Sox hitter I have ever seen
4) Bill Mueller - I have so much respect for him and he has such an every man's way of playing. Plus, he was the key unsung hero...it would be sad to see
3) David Oritz - He is our hero who carried the Sox to the world series. That said, I would be the least surprised (aside from Trot) if he was on the list.
2) Pedro Martinez - the best stuff I have ever seen. Seriously, when can you say that a pitcher has the best pitch...OF THREE PITCHES in the league? Changeup, fastball, curveball was amazing...and hopefully not due to enhancement
1) Curt Schilling - mostly because we would never hear the end of it and he would become the all time biggest hypocrite in the history of sports. It would scar the franchise more than Ortiz in my opinion.
top red sox since 1999 that I would be least surprised by (no real order)
Trot Nixon
Nomar Garciaparra
Shea Hillenbrand
Gabe Kapler
Mike Lansing
Dante Bichette
Carl Everett
John Valentin
Lou Merloni
Mike Stanley
Brian Daubach
Troy O'Leary
Just to clarify, this is a list of people I would be most disappointed by being on the list. Some, as in the case of Wake, I believe have no chance, which is part of the reason for me being so disappointed.
In all honesty do I will I lose sleep if Doug Mirabelli (for example) ends up as an other?
From Kevin Youkilis today:
"I've never done anything like that in my life and I plan on never doing it. ... I want the fans really to know that not everyone does it."
Gotta love Youk!
5. Youk
4. Pedro
3. Ortiz
2. Wake
1. Pedroia
I do not expect any of them to be on the list - thats why it would be so disappointing.
5. Nomar- I don't really care, and he probably was, but he's Sox. Most likely to have been on it right behind Gabe Kapler.
4. Damon- Was certainly after he went to NY, I just hope he didn't get into in before he left to add slight tarnish to '04.
3. Pedro- Love the guy. Seriously doubt it. You never know.
The best Boston Pitcher since the Depression.
2. Mark Grace- If this guy's on the list my whole world is turned upside down. Not that I liked him particularly, but this would be a signal that I don't know my ear from my asshole.
1. Manny- If this is so, our Championships are as nullified as much as the recent Yankee 4. Though not as many guys would've been on the Juice, he was as great a percentage to those Championships as their cheaters were. This would be horrendous. Like the curse never broke... almost.
*Ortiz supersedes all, if he were to be on it (jumping to #1), but there's absolutely no way that's why I will not include him
1-ortiz
2-manny
3-tek
4-beckett
5-damon
sean, youk & pedroia were not in the majors in 2003 so you have nothing to worry about with 2 of your 5
