Prospect Watch: Shawn Crable

video
In this week's edition of Prospect Watch we take a look at Pats linebacker Shawn Crable. Last year Crable was an absolute beast in pre-season, earning Player of the Game honors twice, before landing on IR with a shin injury without playing a single regular season down. The Pats 3rd Round pick in the 2008 draft, Crable showed incredible athleticism that allowed him to either attack the ball or drop into coverage. While some talk of the Pats need to find a difference maker on defense, New England may already have one on their roster in Crable. While his success at the pro level is no guarantee, his play in last year's exhibition season has me excited to see what he is capable of in '09 once the games count.

If you forgot, Crable was the Pats best player in the pre-season on either side of the ball. He created turnovers and his speed was almost shocking. He showed the ability to take on tight ends or blitz, an impressive package for a rookie 3rd round pick.

Also...if he used his year off wisely (lifting and studying film) he should be vastly improved. If he turned the negative of being out injured into a positive he could step into an important role for the Pats this coming season.

Awesome. I really like his potential. We need an LB that can pass rush. If he turns out to be a very good player and starter, that would solidify the 2008 draft as a major success - 2 starting LBs. Mayo clearly was a great pick - but our other picks have a lot to prove: Wheatley, Crable, O'Connel, Wilhite, Slater, Ruud.

Slater was ok.

i was psyched about crable in the preseason and then i honestly forgot all about him. if he can improve off of what he showed last year it could be the equivalent of adding a 1st/2nd rounder this year

I hope Crable can stay healthy and prove to be a steal in the 3rd round. But we still need another MLB unless they're gonna swith to a 4-3 base D.

I could see Crable being a McGinest type, not necessarily glued to one position.
