Spring training has been underway for nearly two weeks, but today actual games finally begin. The Sox play two split-squad games: the annual Boston College game at 1:05 and a 7:05 meeting with the Twins. Obviously wins and losses aren't important until April 6, but there is plenty to be learned about the '09 edition of the Sox between now and then. Everyone from David Ortiz to Josh Bard (he's catching Wake!) will be interesting to keep an eye on today, and in the coming weeks as well. Wins aside, it would be nice to see some positive results from Beckett, Lugo, Rocco, Clay, Jake, MDC and everyone else who takes the field today. Actual baseball games are back.....and I love it!

Least excited about: Wilkerson & Bard
Most nervous about: Penny
Most to prove: Lugo & Buchholz (and Kottaras in a way)
In best position: Bowden (no real pressure to make roster)
PLAY BALL!!
1) Welcome Rocco Baldelli!
strikes out vs BC pitcher!
2) Beckett K'd Sam Shaughnessy! Dan's son.
3) Beckett looks fine
Ino Guerrero, long-time Manny confidant, is pinch hit for BC and walked!
Baldelli struck out again btw!
It baffles me how there aren't live box scores on ESPN/Sportsline.com for spring training games. It is not as if people are not watching/keeping score. Get with it!
It was funny listening to them talk about the Shaughnessey K on sports radio. So afraid to offend his dad! They kept emphasizing what a feat it was to play D1 baseball.
Not that I disagree, it was just funny to hear them go SO far out of their way to drive home the point.
By the way, Sox beat BC 7-1. They were pretty much shut down all game aside from a 6-run 5th inning.
Beckett looked good (2 perfect innings) so that is most important of everything today.
Jeff Bailey looking great!
Sox lose today to the Pirates 3-2. Only 3 hits for the Sox: Jeff Bailey, Chip Ambres, and Nick Green.
Lester, Saito, Oki, and Littleton all looked sharp.
Richard Lentz with the loss and Michael James with the blown save.
Ladies and gentlemen...Spring training
Sounds like Lester and Saito both looked good today. That's the most important part of that Pirates game.

Bowden got destroyed today...as did pitcher Enrique Gonzalez. Rays pounding sox 6-0 in the 3rd
