B's Report: Game 55 vs Sharks

The top teams in each conference collide tonight when the Bruins (39-8-7, 85 points) host the Sharks (36-7-7, 79 points) at the Garden. The B's are coming off an OT loss to the Flyers on Saturday, but still hold a very comfortable 13 point lead over Washington in the East. Meanwhile the Sharks have dropped 3 straight and now have just a 2 point advantage over Detroit in the West. San Jose is led by All Star, and old friend, Joe Thornton (12-45-57) who is 3rd in the NHL is assists. This is just the second trip back to Boston for Jumbo Joe, and last time he got tossed after just 5 minutes for a hit from behind misconduct penalty. Hopefully tonight will be a statement game for Boston as they try to prove the East is best in the NHL this season. Let's go Bruins!

Personally I still root for Thornton when he plays anyone except the Bruins...so I'm fine with him having a big game as long as the B's come away with the win.

I expect that when all is said and done the Red Wings will be atop the West (again).

...in other B's news, Michael Ryder out 3 weeks. Impressive that they have overcome so many injuries this year...hopefully this one will be no different.

WTF?! How was that not a double minor high stick?
Not even a minor penalty!?

That is complete bull crap, especially when you see the other ticky tack penalties called in teh NHL.

Also, I think VS. does a good job with the games, but it drives me crazy that I don't get it in HD. I am spoiled with NESN-HD and there is no sport that benefits from HD more than hockey.

Some booing when Thorton gets the puck. I think that is total crap and classless.

I was never a big Thorton fan but I don't see what anybody could really boo the guy about. He worked hard and never said a bad thing about Boston, even after he left.

I listened to the game on the San Jose radios station (which is an FM station - impressive)

1) Hockey is enormous in San Jose

2) I stopped by a school I used to work at and 3 teachers were in sharks shirts in preparation to watch the game...ON TV

3) The San Jose announcers (not sure of names) are very insightful. Dan Rusanowsky in particular. Wikipedia: "Been with since the team's inaugural season in 1991-92 - His tenure with the team has earned him the title as the Voice of the San Jose Sharks."

4) The Sharks out hit the Bruins - and hit them hard...and all I had was the car radio - you could hear it.

5) Sad to boo Joe. Who are these fans? Seriously - what exactly are they booing? What am I forgetting about his departure?

Coach Claude said the same thing JBS. He said when the Bruins skated they were winning and when the Sharks started pounding them they stopped skating and got killed.

I was very impressed with SJ's penalty kill unit. The B's had several power plays, including a 5-3, that looked like even strength, or at least no real threat of the B's scoring.
