After firing Jeff Jagodzinski last week Boston College AD Gene DeFilippo was forced to act quickly to find Jags' replacement. Yesterday he did just that, promoting Frank Spaziani to head coach. Spaziani has been an assistant at BC since 1997, and the defensive coordinator since 1999. His selection appears to be popular with both Eagles players and alumni alike. This was the logical decision given the limited time left in recruiting season and the need to have a sense of stability in the program before other schools tried to steal away their top recruits. Best of luck Spaz!

Spaziani coached the Eagles for the Meineke Car Care Bowl after Tom O'Brien left to go to NC State in 2006. The Eagles won 25-24. So, despite only being named the head coach yesterday, Spaz is already 1-0!
(and if you can't tell I love being able to call him Spaz without it being an insult)
Keeping Spaz also may help the chances of Mark "The Beast" Herzlich sticking around for another year which is very good news for Eagles fans.
Although I'm not a huge BC football fan it's hard to argue with the hiring of Spaz. They wanted a guy who wants to be there and Spaz def wants it. Good luck to him but I still don't care for BC fans!!!!!
Speaking of New England college football; is it true Joe Dudek lost an eye in the Waco siege in the early nineties?
Hopefully Spaz wont jump ship after a year or two like so many others. Its hard enough bringing recruits but when you have a history of coaching changes its gonna be even harder to get the top tier players. (note: BC normally doesnt get those top tier players, maybe some stability would help that)
I think Coach Spaz is going to be like Jermaine Dupri dating Janet Jackson. He knows he is out of his league and he is going to hold on and not screw it up. They will both be there as long as the other will have them.
It seems like a good hire to me, but I still would have loved to see Jack Bicknell Jr hired and at the press conference announce that he was starting Doug Flutie's nephew at QB next year.
i agree joe. spaz wont leave because this is as good as it could get for him not because hes loayal or anything. tough to leave when it is not an option. not many teams are looking to hire a senior citizen who has never been a head coach at d1
