There is plenty to talk about, as always, in this week’s edition of Mid-Week Miscellaneous. Since hot stove baseball is being covered elsewhere on the site, we’ll look at some other big sports issues: The Pats have just re-signed Rosevelt Colvin and appear set to do the same with Junior Seau. Will these members of the ‘Backerhood be able to make a difference for the Pats down the stretch? And speaking of the Pats down the stretch; does this 7-5 team need to win their final four games in order to have hopes of playing in the postseason? Richard Seymour spoke out this week on being disappointed with not playing often enough on 3rd downs and that he felt the best players should be on the field on the most important down. Seems to make sense to me, but I’m still shocked he had the guts to say it publicly. Is Big Sey on his way out of town after ’08? Turning to the NHL…clearly Tim Thomas, a legit MVP candidate, not being on the All Star ballot is criminal. So what would be the best way to pick the All Star starters? In basketball news, are the Celtics even better than the 2008 World Champion Celtics? Do they still need to add anything? Would you like to see Starbury in green? Are we headed for another Celtics/Lakers NBA Finals? These and any other items on your sports mind can be discussed right here!

I'm re-posting a comment Dave made in another post here just because it's perfect for Mid-Week Miscellaneous (the Sean Avery suspension) and I don't want it to be lost....
Dave:
Fot the record, this whole avery incident is emblamatic of why the NHL ranks somewhere between men's volleyball and NCAA womens softball in terms of popularity. This whole avery "incident" such a desperate attempt to keep the NHL in the media. Who care that he said there is a trend of players dating his sloppy seconds...Is that really that aggregious? I mean shaq sang a song saying Kobe tell me how your ass tastes...the NFL has players getting shot and shooting themselves and MLB has the juice scandal. What does the NHL have for controversy...sloppy seconds. What a joke. Reality when it comes to sports the NHL is the sloppy seconds.
BC vs. Va Tech is on right now. This not only an in season rematch, but also a rematch of last years ACC title game. BC has won the regular season game each of the last 2 yrs but last year even with Matt Ryan they lost the title game. This year they're because of an injury they are playing with a freshman QB. A win in the ACC title games gets them to the Orange bowl. Good exposure for the LBs that BC has, lead by the Mark "the Beast" Herzlich. Lets go BC.
Also Billy Flutie, nephew of Doug, plays for BC and threw a TD last week.
In other news. The Pats now have Colvin and Seau back and both should play tomorrow.
Does anyone have an opinion about the Mansfield High saga that they would care to share?
I'm not sure I 100% understand the Mansfield High saga. They used an ineligible player in 2 games and therefore were forced to forfeit the games...but then it was overturned. I don't get why it was overturned.
Bruschi's done.
I havent seen an official report that Bruschi's done. But he's not with the team in Cali, he's getting his knee evaluated.. But the way the Pats season has been i'm sure he is done for the year, and could be done for good (age, injury).
