Ladder Challenge: Orr vs Brady

In last week's edition of the Ladder Challenge it was Red Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski knocking off the Brockton Blockbuster Rocky Marciano to climb up The RBSF Ladder from #14 to #6. This week it is a battle of two of Boston's all-time greats as Patriots superstar Tom Brady (#5) atttempts to knock off Bruins great Bobby Orr (#2). My vote goes to #4 Bobby Orr. Which of these Boston sports greats will get your vote?

That is all a bit harder to read than I was hoping....

In any case, Orr still gets my vote despite Brady's amazing credentials. Brady still has a bit of playing left him (hopefully) though, so perhaps this battle will be re-visited at some point.

I vote for Bobby Orr mostly because how much he has represented the Bruins and the city of Boston after retiring. I cannot say the same for Brady. Additionally, when talking to my dad, I am constantly reminded that Orr literally changed the game of hockey and how defensemen were viewed. The Paul Coffey/Ray Bourque mold would not have flourished if not for Orr. I love Brady...but Orr is a better Boston Sports figure

As JBS said Orr revolutionized his position. Look at a 10 lists of the greatest defensemen of all time, if i was a betting man i'd put money on it that Orr would be #1 on all 10 lists. Now look at 10 lists of greatest QBs of all time and i'd be willing to bet Brady might be #1 on 6 of them. Not to mention that Orr is considered by some to be the greatest player of all time. Both of these guys deseve to be mentioned with the greatest of all time and not just on RBSF but on ANY list.

#4 for me.

And lets hope Brady's playing career is not cut short by injuries as Orr's was.

Excellent points gmac.

To be honest Brady isn't even #1 on my all-time QB list. Not yet at least. My vote goes to Montana.

As far as NHL defensemen are concerned the only debate is "Who's #2"?

Orr was also voted #1 Boston athlete of all time in a Boston Globe poll of fans....though I'm not sure when that poll was taken.

It will be interesting to see who comes out on top in an Orr/Russell battle.

Voting is kind of a blow out here. I wonder if it would have been closer if:

1. Brady played in '08 and played well.

or

2. The Pats totally self-destructed without him.
