Tonight the Celtics (23-2) head to Atlanta to take on the Hawks (15-9). Boston is looking to extend their 15-game win streak, and hoping The Truth is healthy enough to help them do it. Atlanta, meanwhile, enters the game with a modest 3-game win streak of their own. Although Boston pulled out a 103-102 victory in their first meeting, they did so at home and the Hawks were without Josh Smith. Hopefully, despite a change of scenery and the return of Smith the C's can notch another W tonight. Let's go Celtics!

C's need strong games out of their bench bigs tonight (Leon, Baby) as the Hawks run deep and will be challenging KG and Perk all night. Important for Perk to stay out of foul trouble and for everyone to avoid T's, even though it's likely to be an emotional game.
I love the playoff atmosphere in ATL! Good to have them back as a good team. However, it reminds me of the most stressed I felt as a sports fan all year (aside from super bowl)
Celts are 10 games ahead in the division btw. AMAZING
first time Perk has ever raised his hand for a foul! I love it...totally to earn respect for later in the game
I watched the Hawks beat the Cavs the other day and I cannot express how much of a fool their coach (Woodson) looks like. He overreacts to calls as if he is trying to look like he is so involved...yet is so aware of the camera on him. He looks like nobody likes him.
would be awesome to win in Atlanta to just know what it feels like
Celts had a ton of turnovers last game vs. Jazz....we must snap out of it...sloppy Pierce pass
Rondo! So calm
Nice Mohawk, Marvin Williams. He had a weird career...was the 6th man on the UNC team that won the championship...then he was picked 2nd overall by ATL. So weird. They could have had: Chris Paul, Deron Williams....or Gerald Green
I bet Big Baby has a big game 2nite.
I cant believe how fast Rondo is.
Josh Smith shooting 3s reminds me of Antoine Walker....a great potential post player that lives behind the line...must be frustrating
Josh Smith: In High School, received the Academic Award at Oak Hill for the highest grade point average maintained during the 2003-04 season.
I was working on the Challenge for this week...can't believe it's already 7:37. Orr and Brady had a lot of credentials to try and get in there.
Need to make dinner....I'll be back.
...and I find that Josh Smith fact shocking I must admit.
a future grudge? (a grudge of mine): Why cant Massachusetts produce more NBA/NFL talent?
that was a lightning quick first quarter...very few whistles and zero coach called time outs? Makes things go rapidly
Rick Bucher for ESPN is trying to be a rabble rouser....talked of Celts trash talking earlier - not tried to tell Doc that Pierce looks like he is slow...what a dick
Leon just drew an amazing charge. He is so good at that. Then they call a carry on Pierce? MAKEUP
Flip Murray is one of those guys who probably doesn't even realize what team he is on...he just shoots the ball. Period.
I am amazed how much they discuss trash talking in the NBA and how hard it is to actually hear/see a lot of it. Players are so subtle most of the time - you have to be really focused to watch the actual exchange of words. The NFL and the NHL are totally different. People BLATANLY talk trash, intimidate, etc. Granted, they are much more physical games that allow people to demolish each other legally...the NBA gets a bad rap for its trash talking.
Scal not shaving until the Celts lose! Great inside story by ESPN
our bench is getting pushed around
Their starters are playing our subs by the way
I bet Bibby, Johnson, Horford play at least 42 minutes EACH
Josh CHildress on the phone from Greece....isn't technology good enough to have a live split screen interview?
This computerized "Defense" chant at the arena is PA-THE-TIC
Atlanta is playing solid D - yet ESPN decided to keep CHildress on the call for so long that the production value lost its momentum.
SHUT UP ESPN...just focus on the game
This has turned EXACTLY into a playoff game of last year. We cant do anything the last 8 mins
HORRIBLE call on KG...AND THEN HORRIBLE CALL ON DOC FOR A TECH!
WHAT?
ridiculous
Bibby is complaining to the Refs EVERY PLAY...like old Antoine
Pierce may be the best at hitting tough shots in the league...maybe Kobe is best...Pierce right there.
GREAT PLAY RONDO! He gets in zones of taking over
most amount of sweat in interview history = Marvin Williams. That said...it makes me realize that I haven't sweat even 50% of that amount in 2 years...GET MY ASS TO A GYM!
Very quick half. Refs are letting the guys play...I do appreciate that from them. Ray Allen is definitely cold now...totally fine since he was so hot earlier. I am a bit concerned with our bench play the last few games - not holding leads...in fact...giving them up. No individual is to blame...just the overall cohesion. I do think it would be huge to have PJ back. A veteran big man would add a lot to our 2nd unit.
HA! Walton just called Josh Smith and Horford "Adonis" (plural) - "they are so built...just get down low and make something happen - get away from the 3 point line...4s playing like 3s and 2s...think like 5s"
I LOVE WALTON
Celts 0-7 on 3 pointers....we need to drain some to get the floor spread a bit
Well done half JBS
Pierce looked good, nobody else did.
Marvin Williams, every time I see him, makes me wonder why he's not an All Star yet. So talented.
Mark Jackson is an excellent color analyst. Totally on top of shit and appreciates the little stuff (couldn't have been a bigger Posey fan last year)
Ray Allen's left hand is a secret weapon when he goes to the hole
Pierce totally got away with a foul of Horford out of bounds there. Pierce is such a veteran now
DK - would love to know the youngest coach to win a title in each of the 4 major sports. Can you help me find that?
whoa. you see Glen Davis fall during warmups? Amazing that the wet floor is a story they knew before the game and waiting until Pierce almost killed himself last play.
Is this the same place Atlanta plays hockey? If not, why is the floor so wet?
Pierce is slow to the ball on D 2nite...no question about it. His knee is definitely on his mind
The 4 youngest coaches (my guess before looking this up)....
MLB - Some player/coach
NHL - Same
NFL - Shula
NBA - Auerbach
KG just got away with the most blatant double dribble in the history of my memory.
Joe Johnson + getting more mad = a SUPERSTAR
otherwise...he is just a really good player
Celts are not playing great basketball and are in this game. We need Ray Allen/Eddie House to drain a 3 to help spread this floor and make for easier shots
Youngest coach to win a Super Bowl = Jon Gruden, Tampa Bay (39)
HOLY SHIT - Chris Paul's outfit - anyone see it?
Youngest manager to win the World Series (I think) is Lou Boudreau, Cleveland (30).
HOLY RONDO
NBA (I think) Bill Russell, Celtics (35)
So this "fake around the back" move by Rondo is so much more than that. It is such an advantage in that he actually can hide the ball from his defender's hands until the last moment when he shoots it. Just a gift of huge hands (like Jordan).
Announcers always call it a fake...but it is more about hiding the ball from his defender
in my opinion, obviously
Elton Brand will be out for a while...dislocated shoulder.
No question they will be better without him
Joe Johnson needs to want to take over more
Mark Jackson is basically CRYING to be a coach right now...especially given all the firings right now. HIRE MARK JACKSON SOMEONE
THREE BY RAY RAY!!!!
If there is one team you do NOT want to have hustle-save the ball-while diving out of bounds- plays against...it is the Hawks. They prey on those plays and get a fast break every time
A win tonight would be HUGE
This could be the game right here....their bench KILLED us last time.
Tony Allen is just a bad passer.
Flip Murray is a moron. He had the ball, almost got it stolen, got it back, and had a deer-in-headlights moment. He literally hasn't passed a basketball in 10 years.
WHAT A GAME!
WHAT A GAME!
No way we lose this unless they have a miraculous game winner. The C's have the look of a team that just decided losing is not an option.
Nice block Perk!
Sweet give-and-go with KG & Rondo!
Offensive rebounds allowed at this stage in the game is inexcusable.
I love our team so much. Rondo in the 4th is so different than last year. We have FOUR threats in the 4th quarter now. Amazing. I guess Posey was the same last year...but this having speed as an option is ridiculous
PERK! How can I leave out POWER! Great fake and 1!
WAY TO GO PERK! A year ago he would have gotten called for an offensive foul for that little raised elbow. Instead he turns it into 3!
ANOTHER O-Rebound allowed...and now a 3-point chance for them. Dammit!
That is one of the most powerful game dunks I've ever seen. No exaggeration.
Perk = Posterized
Power play by Josh Smith right there.
MVP chants for Joe Johnson! Good fans. I don't agree at all...but good fans to cheer for your own so loudly.
OH MY GOD!!!!
Sick alley-oop from Rondo to KG!!!!
JJ came right back....
82-81 Atlanta with 1:07 left
Pierce again!
103-102 C's
KG to take the lead again.
Great game!
WHAT A BLOCK BY PERK!!!!!
Perk is one of the Sparks for that block. Awesome!
I said the Hawks only chance would be a miraculous shot...they have a chance for it now.
I'd go for the win (3) if I were Atlanta.
Most vocal I've ever seen Rondo in the huddle. Great stuff.
Donny Marshall called it: "statistically he's got to miss this"
They just gave out Player of the Game on the broadcast. Weird. Still time left in a 1-point game. (They gave it to KG by the way, which I do not agree with)
Amazing that Bibby even got rim on that last shot.
GREAT WIN!!!!
Final Score
BOS 88
ATL 85
3 Sparks
1-Rondo
2-Perkins
3-Garnett
Choke central by Joe Johnson. Seriously has to go down as one of the top regular season free throw chokes of all time...given that he is an amazing free throw shooter
Someone should tell the Atlanta fans that MVPs make clutch free throws!
