Although there is a separate post for the MLB Awards, it seemed appropriate to give the American League Most Valuable Player, Dustin Pedroia, one to himself just to say “congratulations”. It was just a year and a half ago that Pedroia was hitting .172 on May 1 and people were calling for Alex Cora to replace him as the Sox starting second baseman. But Terry Francona had confidence in Pedroia and it was obviously confidence well placed. Since then? In 2007 he went on to bat .313 with 165 hits, 86 runs, 39 doubles, 8 homers, 50 RBI, 7 steals, win Rookie of the Year and help the Red Sox become 2007 World Series Champions. A great first campaign for sure, but this year Pedroia, individually-speaking, dwarfed his fine rookie campaign: .326, 213 hits, 118 runs, 54 doubles, 17 HR, 83 RBI, 20 steals, All Star starter, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger and now the MVP! Well done Destroya...I'm already looking forward to see what you do to improve in '09!

Only the 3rd player in history to win Rookie of the Year and MVP consecutively in his first two seasons, joining Cal Ripken Jr and Ryan Howard.
Needless to say neither of those guys exactly fell off the face of the Earth after Year 2. Let's hope the trend continues...no reason to believe that it wont.
Also he the the first AL 2nd baseman to win since 1959. And Going back when we first discussed Pedroia as an MVP candidate. You heard from me first and i'll say it again he is the shortest AL MVP in MLB history.
Listed as 5'9", however in a 2003 USA Today article he was listed as 5'7".
I think i made a list of the shortest guys, DK if you can easliy locate that post feel free to post my list, cause it took a lot of searching to find the info and i dont want to do it again.
i agree with dk 100% on this one. i would have voted for youk too (hes my favorite player, maybe alltime) but i am just happy a red sox won it. they both deserved it and i didnt want morneau to win
