Celts Report: Game 5 vs Thunder

The Celtics (3-1) look to win their second road game in two nights, and their first sweep of back-to-back games this year, when they take on the Oklahoma City Thunder (1-2). Although the Thunder are not an expansion team (they are the former Seattle Supersonics) they certainly have the look and feel of one…including their recycled head coach, P.J. Carlesimo. The Thunder are riding a 1-game win streak, having defeated the T-Wolves by 3 on Sunday. They are led by a crew of young guns: Kevin Durant, Jeff Green and Russell Westbrook, along with veteran big men Chris Wilcox and Nick Collison. The Celtics must be encouraged by the strong performance of Ray Allen (29 points) last night, as well as Kendrick Perkins (15 points, 5 blocks) who played great against possibly the NBA’s best center Yao Ming. The still struggled at the line however and KG, Pierce and Rondo all had subpar nights. Although the C’s “A game” may not be needed to be OKC, let’s hope they bring it tonight and take the sellout crowd out of the game early. Perhaps the Thunder are too young to realize they shouldn’t have a chance to win tonight, which could work in their favor. Start strong and put them away before they get a sense of hope! Let’s go Celtics!

I'm predicting a big blowout and Chris Wilcox annoying me.

CONTRACT GUYS WE ARE PLAYING AGAINST (I will do this as many games as possible this season ). These guys will or should have extra motivation all year and also could be trade bait prior to deadline:

*Chris Wilcox
*Donyell Marshall
*Robert Swift for some reason has no info - but could be

WOW!

Grant Long is one of the Thunder announcers...and just went out of his way to say how special it was being a Celtic and sitting down with Red for lunch. He is sad he never met Russell, but is his hero. He made it sound like it was the best place to play for a veteran EVER. Simply amazing stuff out of Grant Long.

Grant Long career Celtics stats (1 season)

2002-2003 season
44-38 = Celts record (3rd place in Atlantic Division)
4-2 = beat Pacers in first round
0-4 = lost to Nets in 2nd round

41 games
11.9 minutes per game
4.3 minutes per game in playoffs
2.0 rebounds per game
0.6 rebounds per game in playoffs
1.8 points per game
0.3 points per game in playoffs

delay to start of the game because of a "net issue"

Come on Thunder....get the fundamentals right.

JBS said...

Their sideline guy has a decibal meter and just said right now the crowd is about at the level of a subway train. Not sure if he meant that in a good or a bad way.

JBS said...

Pet Peeve of mine = the paint needs to be PAINTED. Why have that the one place that isn't in the key area?

gmac said...

got excited and saw the game listed tonight..but again another black out.

JBS said...

Good for Okla City...crowd is totally into this game. Good stuff

DK said...

I believe they sold out the entire season and the Hornets raved about how good the fans were when they played there and they weren't even really "their team". Good stuff....glad cities that will support teams are getting them.

Hopefully this will continue even when the novelty of the new team wears off.

DK said...

Jeff Green is legit.

DK said...

Leon Powe is a one man show! 14 pts and 5 rbs half way through the 2nd quarter. Good stuff!

Celts up 40-33 despite our starters not really playing well so far.

JBS said...

Powe, Tony Allen, Big Baby all having really good games.

When does the Eddie House 3 point insanity start? I say when we get back to the Garden

JAS said...

I think Leon has a legit shot at 6th man of year, can't say enough about his effort on the boards

JAS said...

Perk is dominating the peint.

Rondo already with 7 asst.

JBS said...

Durant looks like he didn't touch a weight all year. He is a 100% 3 point/jump shooter. YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DO THAT LATER (see careers of: Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady)

Looks nothing like a future super star

JBS said...

Jeff Green, however, is the captain of this team. Plays smart basketball

DK said...

I love how obviously the C's don't care at all about individual stats.

JAS said...

Donnie Marshall couln't be dicking Westbrook harder. i don't see what all the fuss is about

JBS said...

Ray Allen is playing like a starting SG on the all star team

JBS said...

I think the Celts strategy is the opposite of points. I feel it is more like: "How do we give Pierce and KG the least amount of minutes per game possible"

DK said...

Perk is not only owning the paint, he's done a great job of staying out of foul trouble tonight and he's one of the better outlet passers in the NBA (with help from the Chief)

DK said...

TERRIBLE CALL! Rondo just picked him so nice and they call a foul? Ridiculous!

JBS said...

Rondo does a good job at not arguing with the ref. The Celts best strategy with refs remains Ray Allen. Best statesman (swears the least, doesn't have weird pierce baggage) on the team

DK said...

Plus he has respect which is huge. Good call on Ray, agreed.

DK said...

70-55 after 3, Celtics lead.

DK said...

Damien Wilkins sparks my interest in looking this up....Top 10 recruits from the Class of 1999....

1. Donnell Harvey (Florida)
2. Jason Williams (Duke)
3. DerMarr Johnson (Cincinnati)
4. Damien Wilkins (NC State)
5. Jason Kapono (UCLA)
6. Jason Richardson (Michigan St)
7. Jonathan Bender (NBA)
8. Jason Parker (Fork Union Military)
9. Brett Nelson (Florida)
10. Carlos Boozer (Duke)

What happened to Jason Parker?

JAS said...

Eddie house has such a quick release, his shot is impossible to block

JBS said...

We are so good. I love our team.

9 rebounds for Ray Allen. Impressive. He had one VERY strong rebound earlier that impressed me.

This game is sort of boring. Seems like both teams know who will win and it's just a matter of going through the motions for the most part

JBS said...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Parker

JAS said...

We might get to see B. Walker'd NBA debut tonight, what a treat

JBS said...

agree, DK. The game is boring - which is why I am surprised Durant isn't trying to show the champs that he is a SICK player. He is playing like a pussy. Where is his effort?

JBS said...

Can't believe House got that call

Grant Long LOOOOOOVES the Celts! amazing to listen to

JAS said...

Such a pussy move by Durrant, he avoids contact when he goes to hole

DK said...

There has still been ZERO games with Heinsohn this year. Marshall doesn't do a bad job, but I miss Tommy. Gorman is better with Heinsohn around too...it gets him pumped.

JBS said...

Jason Parker (Kentucky)

2000-01: All-SEC Freshman Team
2001-02: (Injured prior to season (ACL))
2002-03: transferred to South Carolina

NO STATS FROM HERE ON!!!!

DK said...

JBS, you've now forced me to go to 2 totally random websites. Well done.

JAS said...

Did Marshall just compare Durrant to Jordan?!?!

JBS said...

KG talking TONS of shit to Joe Smith

JBS said...

Perk is the MVP of the first 5 games

JBS said...

Perk is OUT OF CONTROL.

Westbrook challenging Pierce big time right now as if the coach (PJ) is telling him that Pierce won't pass if you talk shit to him....NOPE! This is the new Pierce

JAS said...

This floor situation is rediculous, Allen just almost hurt himself

JAS said...

WOW

JBS said...

"I remember that play in my Celtics days - down low to Pierce"

-Grant Long (WHO PLAYED 41 GAMES AS A CELTIC!!!!!!!!)

DK said...

I just looked at the Top 10 from each high school class since 1990. Amazing how many guys have done nothing. BY FAR the best class is '95....

1. KG
2. Ron Mercer
3. Tractor Trailer
4. Shareef Abdur-Rahim
5. Vince Carter
6. The Truth
7. Starbury
8. Chauncey Billups
9. Antawn Jamison
10.Randall Jackson

The only other class with all 10 going to the NBA was 2004, but 7 guys went straight to the NBA and not all have done anything.

DK said...

I love that Grant Long is so into being a former Celtic. I consider him a Phoenix Sun, but I'm not even 100% sure he played for them.

DK said...

Gorman just call Durant a pussy in the nicest possible way.

JBS said...

Greg Maddux won the gold glove for pitchers? seriously?

JBS said...

gotta love fans who are still at the game, cheering loudly to Jeff Green blocking Ray Allen...down 12 with 1:19 to go.

GREAT FANS!

DK said...

Perk is doing a lot of good things that don't necessarily show up on a stat sheet.

DK said...

Pierce just got the Player of the Game by Comcast....I totally disagree.

JBS said...

Thunder may be my favorite West Coast team.

DK said...

Final Score: C's 96, Thunder 83

Celtics move to 4-1. Good win.

3 Sparks of the Game....

1-LEON
2-PERK
3-PIERCE

JBS said...

My choice for Sparks

1) Perk
2) Ray Ray
3) Powe

JBS said...

Russell Westbrook may start in the back court with Rose in the Rookie All star game

JBS said...

Will Big Baby make the Sophomore team?

DK said...

No chance, I'd guess

DK said...

Some of Baby's competition....
Horford, Durant, Scola, Thornton, Green, Moon, Navarro, Young, Stuckey, Landry, Noah, Yi, Young, Conley, Brewer, Law, Crittenton

Plus I'm not sure if they will have Oden play with the rookies or sophmores. Uphill climb to say the least for Davis.

JBS said...

great Boston.com note:

After giving up 29 points in the first quarter, the defending NBA champions held the Thunder to 25 percent shooting over the next two periods and didn't let them match that point total for the next 26 minutes.

ew. the thunder are so bad. glad to have this game after the rockets game.. other way around, and the rockets game would have been a loss.
