The Celtics (2-0) took care of their first two home games of the season, but they now must hit the road to take on the Indiana Pacers (0-1). Although the Pacers lost their season opener it was a tough 100-94 game against a tough Pistons team in Detroit. They have now had two days off while Boston has to fly from Boston to play the second game of a back-to-back. The Pacers have worked hard to get rid of their troublemakers and malcontents (though Jamaal Tinsley remains) and the new face of the franchise is excellent fourth year pro Danny Granger, who had 33 in their opener. Will he be as successful using energy on both ends of the court against Paul Pierce? Meanwhile Mike Dunleavy (19.1 ppg last year) is out 7-10 days with a knee injury for Indiana and will miss the game. The Pacers desperately need somebody to pick up the slack if they are going to score an upset, even against a fatigued Celtics team. Unfortunatley for them, in looking at their roster I'm not sure who would be able to do so. Troy Murphy? Marquis Daniels? T.J. Ford? Boston needs to get out early and crush any hopes the Pacers have in the first half, much as they did to the Bulls last night. Since the C’s are 2-0, the only thing we can ask for is more of the same. Here we go Celtics!Saturday, November 1, 2008
Celts Report: Game 3 vs Pacers
The Celtics (2-0) took care of their first two home games of the season, but they now must hit the road to take on the Indiana Pacers (0-1). I hope they don't show Larry Bird too much during the game. Seeing him now almost depresses me.
It will also be the 3rd game in a row with no Tommy Heinsohn giving color commentary. I need some Tommy!
Granger vs. Pierce is going to be awesome.
Troy Murphy had 15 rebounds their first game - no chance vs. us 2nite
Would love to see House and Ray Ray shoot the lights out today
Interested in seeing Roy Hibbert play too
Celtics down 31-24.
I said they only had to stop 1 player, and so far they haven't. Granger has 11 and is outplaying Pierce and everyone else.
Tony Allen early frontrunner for top spark. 8 points in under 4 minutes.
Hibbert is in WAY better shape than he was in college (and Donny Marshall just said the same thing)
Perk is great at passing out of the post. They have to keep taking advantage of that.
Nice 9-2 run, down to a 41-38 Pacers lead.
I love KG catching the ball before it goes in the net when the whistle blows. It's funny they talk about how much they love it (the announcers) because Ricky Davis I believe was the originator of it around here and it just made him look like a giant a-hole.
Rondo & E.House are a combined 1-7 for 5 points, 2 assists and 2 turnovers in 24+ combined minutes. Not good.
48-41 Pacers at halftime.
Keys for the 2nd Half....
* Stop Granger
* Better PG play
* Get Pierce and KG more involved
Also....Indiana has 7 first half blocked shots. That is WAY too many. If they have that many blocks we should have a few of their guys in foul trouble, and nobody on Indiana has more than 2.
Must stop TJ Ford somehow - getting by everyone.
Stop with the bad passing turnovers (they did get much better at it)
I am watching with Indiana announcers - one of which is Quinn Buckner who is very good.
Not surprised, Buckner was a very good studio analyst. Unfortunately for him it got him a head coaching job for a horrible team and it probably set his broadcasting career back 10 years.
14 first half turnovers for the C's? Not acceptable.
Celtics starting off 2nd half flat too....I may go back to watching the B's which is 1000 times more entertaining than this.
Ray Allen with 2 big baskets and draws a charge. Great work!
Pierce is being way too lax with the ball tonight.
Nesterovic was a solid pick up for them. He's solid.
Pierce looks awful shooting tonight, especially at the line. UGLY!
Old-fashioned 3-point play by KG. That may get them going.
C's have 47 points more than 1/2 way through the 3rd Quarter. Not acceptable.
TA checking back in. He sparked them in his first appearance. Let's see more of it!
Down to 13...good ball movement.
Leon & Powe replacing Rondo & Perk who were both absolutely useless so far tonight.
Pierce:
2-11 FG
5-10 FT
C'mon dude!
Down to 10...solid work by Pierce to continue to drive to the hole. Love that he doesn't lose confidence.
Defense is picking up too. Let's get this under 10! (3:55 left in 3rd)
How did Crawford call that T on E.House? He wasn't even the ref that made the original call.
Horrible refereeing tonight.
"They say if you're within 10 going into the 4th it's a game. So we've got ourselves a game, Celtics are down 69-58." - Mike Gorman
Huh? Isn't that 11?
Wow...granger lost his 2 front teeth. Gross.
Celts look flat.
We are so cold. Indiana looks good.
We are going to destroy the Pacers when we play them at home
C's did not deserve this one from the start. Tough to travel with back-to-backs, but just REALLY flat all game.
Final Score
Pacers 95, Celtics 79
Guess 82-0 is out of the question.
3 SPARKS (slim pickings)
1 - KG
2 - TA
3 - LEON
i wouldnt be surprised if we saw these guys in round 1 of the playoffs
