The Bruins (14-3-4) travel to Buffalo (9-8-3) to play the Sabres for the fourth time in this their first 22 games. Boston has gone 2-0-1 in the teams three meetings so far, including an impressive 7-4 win the last time they played. In that game, one week ago in the Garden, the B’s found themselves trailing by scores of 1-0, 3-1 and 4-2, before ultimately prevailing by the 7-4 final. Chuck Kobasew and Zdeno Chara eached had two goals for the Bruins in the win. The B’s are now 9-0-1 in their last 10 games, so it’s hard to imagine they could be any hotter than they are at the moment. Buffalo meanwhile is 3-6-1 in their last 10 and is heading in the opposite (wrong) direction. As has been the case every time Buffalo is the opposition, the key for Boston is stopping Sabres LW Thomas Vanek, who is tied for the league lead with 15 goals. Obviously when you are talking about the NHL’s goal scoring leader that is a task easier said than done. Boston will certainly have their hands full against their Northeast Division rivals tonight, but betting against Tim Thomas and the B’s right now is certainly not a wise move. Let’s go Bruins!Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Bruins currently in the Top 10 of league leaders....
M.Lucic - Hits (#1)
T.Thomas - GAA (#1)
T.Thomas - Save % (#1)
T.Thomas - Shutouts (#2)
M.Savard - Points (#2)
M.Savard - +/- (#3)
M.Savard - Assists (#4)
B.Wheeler - Shootout Goals (#4)
T.Thomas - Wins (#6)
Z.Chara - Ice Time (#6)
P.Bergeron - Faceoff % (#6)
D.Wideman - +/- (#8)
To illustrate what a one-man team Vanek is on offense, he has 15 goals...nobody else on the Sabres has more than 8 and only 2 others have more than 5. He also has just 4 assists.
B's down 2-0 after 1 and getting outshot 12-9.
Derek Roy has both goals for Buffalo (#'s 5 & 6)...Vanek has an assist.
B's have only had 1 real good scoring chance (Savard) and Ryan Miller looks to be on the top of his game today...hasn't let up any rebounds at all.
B's made it 2-1 on a goal by Hunwick (#3) but then Buffalo scored again 30 seconds later to make it 3-1.
That is the score after 2 full: 3-1 Buffalo leads.
Tim Thomas not having his best night...he has allowed 3 goals on only 18 shots. B's are actually out-shooting the Sabres 23-18.
Thornton fought Peters from Buffalo last period but I missed it.
Peters is a giant and Thornton did okay against him. I would give the slight victory to Thornton. It also seemed to get the team fired up.
I'd love to see these 2 teams play in the playoffs. They play hard against each other, but clean. 2 good goaltenaders. Maybe Team USA's 2 goalies in 2010?
B's were able to add 1 more (Kessel, #11) in the 3rd, but that was it.
Final Score
BUF - 3
BOS - 2
3 Stars...
1-Kessel
2-Savard
3-Hunwick
