Who is BenJarvus Green-Ellis?

With Laurence Maroney out for the year, Lamont Jordan inactive for the game and Sammy Morris going down with an injury before halftime, the Patriots called upon BenJarvus Green-Ellis to carry the workload for them in the second half. Making his NFL debut, Green-Ellis responded with a very effective performance against the Broncos on Monday Night Football, amassing 65 yards on 13 carries (5.0 yards per carry) and added his first NFL touchdown for good measure. So just who is BenJarvus Green-Ellis? The undrafted rookie split his college career between Indiana and Ole Miss. As a true freshman at Indiana he earned a spot on the Big 10 All-Freshman Team with 938 yards rushing and 7 TDs. His sophomore year was a slight step backwards for Green-Ellis as he totaled just 794 yards and 5 TDs. After that season he transferred to Ole Miss and was forced to sit out a year. He returned in style, rushing for 1,000 yards even his junior year and adding 7 TDs. He was selected 1st Team All-SEC. His senior year was again impressive with his second straight 1,000-yard season (1,137) with 6 TDs. But playing on lousy teams did not earn him much recognition, and when he showed up to the NFL Combine with the flu he put up numbers far below what he was capable of. The New Orleans native improved considerably on his numbers at the Ole Miss senior day, but by then it was too late to help his draft stock and he was not selected. And though the New Orleans native was certainly disappointed by not being picked, he said “you can’t control the draft. I’ll just work as hard as I can to make a team and stick”. Fortunately for Green-Ellis his hard work, and good timing, has paid off for both himself and the Pats. So who is BenJarvus Green-Ellis? If Lamont Jordan and/or Sammy Morris is unable to return from injury anytime soon, Green-Ellis could go from undrafted rookie to one of the more important players on a team that finished 16-0 just one season ago.

For those who weren't blogging during the MNF game, we came up with some possibly RBs to bring in if Jordan or Morris is unable to go. As you can see we should be rooting for our guys to stay healthy from here on out....

Ron Dayne
Mike Anderson
Samkon Gado
Alvin Pearman
Kenton Keith
Musa Smith
Vernand Morency

...and these were the best options!

Kyle Eckel signed by the Eagles yesterday, so there is one more option (albeit not a great one) off the board.

Green-Ellis looks like he could be serviceable, but not sure he could be the every down back week in and week out. Who knows maybe he could've been they guy we should have been playing over Maroney. I dont think so but you never know.

Here's a guy i find intersting. I dont think he's the smartest guy. He couldnt make grades at Rutgers or North Dakota State school of the sciences before he ended ar Graceland.

Jerome Messam-undrafted FA from Graceland University(in Iowa)
6-4, 230 pounds with 4.55 speed. He'd be another body and by his size and speed looks like he could dish out some punishment.

Kenton Keith plays for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis - this guy has almost as many names as Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo.
Perhaps I was too caught up in the Sox - but i couldn't pick this guy out of a lineup.
What about Reggie Dupard - John Stephens - Mosi Tatupu - Tony Collins - or perhaps Marion Butts?
Did you know that Steve Grogan is #16 on the Pats all time rushing list?
Clock Killin' Corey Dillon?

Kevan Barlow was another name I saw out there for available backs...

Both Jordan and Morris are listed as doubtful for this week. This means Green-Ellis may be getting the start this week. The only other backs on the roster right now are Faulk and Evans. Could get interesting.

Not that video games are the same as real life but i use Green-Ellis a bit in Madden and he does alright.
