Tonight the Celtics officially begin defense of their World Championship when they open the season against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs feature LBJ and brought the Celts to Game 7 in the Eastern Conference semifinals last season, so the game itself would be worth watching even if this wasn’t the opening tip off of the 2008-09 season. There will also be the pre-game festivities including the handing out of championship rings and the raising of banner #17! Needless to say it should be a very special night at the Garden, hopefully one the Celtics can cap off with a victory to begin the year 1-0. The starting 5 return, but they will need to make up for the loss of key reserves James Posey and PJ Brown. Perhaps Tony Allen and Leon Powe will step up in Game 1 to help the home fans forget about the departed. Although there will likely not be a posting for every C’s game this year, the opener deserved some special attention, especially with the special ceremonies, so please chime in before, during and after tonight’s game with your thoughts. Celtics 2008-09 Season Opener

I need your help...I have Pats Players of the Week and 3-Stars for Bruins games...I need something for the Celtics. Just giving player of the game doesn't seem to make sense since it will be KG or Pierce 90% of the time (in all likelihood). Any suggestions?
Also, if you missed the "This Day in RBSF History" for today, it's the 2 year anniversary of Red's death. Since #2 is retired in his honor it seems quite appropriate to be raising the banner on this day.
for Celts - maybe just bench player of the game and starter of the game? I need to get to know them better and they are the key to our success.
The pregame show on CSN is awesome! It's a recap of last year. They started it with the draft when the Celts got the #5 pick. I was with DK for that lottery, his comment: "That's the worst thing that could possibly happen."
It seemed like an accurate statement at the time but, man, how things can change.

I like the idea for 6th man (bench player) of the game. Hustle player of the game, doesnt even need to show up in the stats but a Posey type player who just does good thing that dont show up on the stats sheet.

I think his playoff performance last year puts him in the conversation at least. NBA MVP is like college football...there are pre-season rankings and guys can only move up so much. I thought he was arguably our MVP last year.

BB, I don't think he did. The C's going so far into the playoffs actually hurt his chances since jobs were filling up. Plus D'Antoni taking the Knicks job screwed things up for him too.
