FINALLY! The Pats 2008 regular season is finally here as the Chiefs (4-12 in 2007) come to Foxboro to challenge the defending AFC Champions. Though the Chiefs are coming off their worst season in 20 years, this is a new year and anything can always happen on Opening Weekend. The Pats have won 19 straight regular season games, an NFL record, and are looking to add to that mark today. However they are coming off not only a crushing Super Bowl loss to end their quest for 19-0 last season, but also an 0-4 pre-season in which Tom Brady did not play a single down. Key questions for today: How will Brady look in his first game action? How will the Pats offensive line hold up? Will the D be able to stop Larry Johnson and the KC ground game? Will the Pats secondary step up despite appearing to be short-handed? How will the rookies respond to their first "real" NFL action? Will the Pats special teams look better than they did in pre-season? And, most importantly, will the Pats be able to win #20 in a row? The prediction here is yes, and likely easily (34-3) to start '08 on a winning note. This post is your chance to analyze all the happenings pre-game, post-game and of course during the game itself. Go Pats!

I'd love to see the Pats get the ball and drive down to score. Something that eliminates any doubts about TB right away.
Man am I getting psyched!
...and Happy 43rd Birthday Bruce Armstrong, the greatest offensive tackle in Patriots history.
Patriots win big. KC, loaded with rookies gets overmatched by the Pats veteran bunch. Wilfork has a huge game. Brady looks sharp and Pats win big 24-7.
Thanks for that daring prediction "anonymous"
Now we can be sure Not to give you credit when you are right.
Larry Johnson scores on the Chiefs' first drive and the continued issue of our defense remains a story until Wheatley has a pick 6 the next drive. Our pass D seriously outplays our run D. That said, the Pats score 20 in the first half, with Gaffney scoring on an end around,Moss jump ball TD, and 2 45 yard FGs.
oh...and Pats win 35-20 in a game that is never close after the first quarter...yet our run D is an issue
Watson out...is he on the verge of being considered a bust? Overly injury-prone?
Bad teams make plays like "running into the kicker". A 4-12 team giving a 16-0 team a 2nd chance is not a good omen for KC.
Pats look okay despite having to (originally) punt.
Great question DK. Watson had the hype, but he isnt living up to it. Still like my pick from before. 24-7. Wilfork plays huge.
-Crappythumbs murphy
Welker fumble? Yikes.
Not a good omen for NE to not take advantage of the penalty.
I love Ty Warren! Great hit to start the season on D.
Big Sey with sick pressure on 3rd down. If KC faces 3rd and long (more than 3) they will have no chance all day. Good coverage, good play by Seymour.
Not much yardage, but Maroney looked tough on his first run...3 yards.
Maroney looks REALLY good (yes, it's early, but still...)
Murph, great to hear from you buddy.....maybe CT Murphy would be better!
OH F*CK! (and I don't mean the fumble)
They got to put in O'Connell...if Cassel comes in I will be shocked/bummed....
Sick hit by Rodney on the blitz...and they still completed it.
Best pass of his career
Maroney and Watson have breakout years.
Watson has to play to break out.
Sammy Morris is one tough dude to take down...love it.
WOW...Matt Cassel, who would have thought it?
#22 needs to be taken off punt return team if he's not going to lay a hand on anyone...that is two times now.
Watson a breakout year? No chance. He has a bum knee and he is expected to have a breakout year every year.
Hanson: 57 yd punt with no return to the 9....nice work.
Deltha O'Neal....
1. Horrible tackle attempt on Bowe
2. Horrible coverage on Bowe
3. Fair catch with nobody within 100 yards
3 terrible plays within a 4 play sequence. Yikes.
Flea Flicker with Cassel?
I'm sorry but this dude does not have another 30+ minutes in him.
Pats are pretty fortunate that Bowe has stone hands.
The Colts were supposed to beat us every year, and though they didn't do it when they were supposed to, guess what, they did?
(with the help of 2 errors on pass-interference calls)
If Watson avoids injury, he's gonna tear up the Red Zone.
Up 7-3 half...clearly didn't play great, but this week is about surviving and getting the win. Period.
I'd say there is 0% chance Brady comes back today...just a matter of how hurt he is.
Cassel has not looked bad, especially considering how horrible he looked in pre-season.
great sack....followed by close call touchback. Time to put this game away.
agreed entirely. Hope Brady is back week 3 or week 4 but also won't be surprised if he plays next week.
I always thought Favre had a good shot to steal 1 of 2 but I'd hate to see it without our starting QB.
The Jets went for a 2 pt conversion on the 2nd TD...anyone see it? I didn't...makes no sense why they would try one. I hate them.
I saw it. They looked like the Jets of old. Though Favre has been looking like the Favre of old too.
The runner never goes down where Bruschi makes initial impact.
Hobbs should never cover a WR over 6 ft in the Red Zone...didn't we learn this?
If Bowe had hands he'd have 12 catches for 200 yards already....and even with his horrible hands today he's still looking pretty good. Either that or the Pats DBs are just looking pretty bad.
Jets got their 2nd TD on 4th and 13. their K is injured so thats why they went for 2.
Any updates on Brady?
Ellis making up for getting beat on that TD with that return...very nice.
Big return by Hobbs!
anyone see Matt Ryans 1st NFL pass? 62 yd TD.. BC QB showing how its done in ATL.
That sack was Sammy Morris' fault.
I missed that interception and then the roughness penalty on the Pats...can someone explain the roughness?
Hobbs more than making up for the TD now...nice pick. Finally a turnover for the Pats!
liking Cassel's mobility.
Still would've liked to see some of O'Connell this game.
But I am not gonna complain about Cassel's overall play.
KC down by 7, 2 mins to go and they need to go 76 yards...if they score we deserve to lose.
Well.......
Merriweather, worst D ever! Good hustle by O'Neal just to stop the TD
James Sanders and Brandon Meriweather just totally blew that.
correction...that may have been j.sanders fault
correction...that may have been j.sanders fault
Nice play Big Sey!
3rd & goal...
Merriweather has no hands....4th & goal....
PATS WIN! That is all that matters
Incomplete, game over.
A win is all I was asking for.
Very happy, considering the circumstances.
First time in 57 straight games Brady isnt in listed on the injury report... go figure. Either way, should expect #12 back soon enough.
I am not overly confident that its not a major knee tear....I really hope its just a strain/sprain, but it didnt look that good....get dante culpepper on the phone, cause if i have to watch matt cassel all season I may give up my season tickets.
It didn't look great you're right about that. Send those season tickets over this way!
Peter King has reported that he heard from a source that the Brady injury is bad and potentialy season ending. (any local reports?)
Is it time to offer Culpepper a starting job? Or can Cassell play well enough to keep the Pats Super Bowl hopes alive? Should the Pats go after another vet QB? If they do go after a vet they should do it sooner than later. The sooner the better since they play the Jets,Dolphins then the bye week and after the bye week is the 49ers.
Its not a real difficult schedule this season when you have Brady taking the snaps but not sure if i feel the schedule is as easy without him back there. I didnt have this same feeling when Bledsoe went down. Not saying that i thought Brady was gonna come in and win the SB that year but i feel real uncomfortable with Cassell. Maybe it is because at least Brady played in college Cassell has been a back up since he left high school. I'm gonna accept any option that BB makes, he obvously sees something in Cassell that i dont/havent.
Everyone give a lil prayer to which ever god/goddess it is that you pray to.
Well said Gmac.
Ron Borges is reporting that he hears it is a torn ACL. If true it would seem logical that he'd be done for the year.
