In this edition of “Mid-Week Miscellaneous” there appears to be plenty to touch on as usual. The Bruins begin their pre-season schedule in just 5 days (Sep 22 vs Montreal). Are you ready for some hockey? Although Dustin Pedroia has generated a lot of MVP talk in these parts, a recent national poll showed that Minnesota’s Justin Morneau is a huge front runner at this point with Pedroia far behind in a group of also-rans. Who gets your vote? And speaking of MVP Awards, should players like Manny Ramirez and C.C. Sabathia who were only in the N.L. for about 40% of the season be considered for that league’s MVP? Are you impressed with K-Rod’s saves record? Paul Pierce said he noticed recently that the C’s, despite 17 titles, haven’t won back-to-back in almost 40 years…can it be done? Any surprises (positive or negative) from the early goings of the NFL season? On the Pats? And as always, anything else you care to discuss is fair game on this post……have at it!

Personally I don't think C.C., Manny or anyone else in that situation should be considered for the MVP. It's the equivalent of somebody winning NFL MVP and playing only 7 games. Makes no sense to me to even consider it.
MLB - I do not think they should be able to win awards if they switch leagues however if Manny or CC are to win any awards this is how I believe it should be considered. Voters will vote for them based on their stats from the AL and then from the NL separately. Since they were in the AL for 60% of the year, their AL votes will count as 60% of their total votes. Their NL votes should count as 40%. For example, if Manny would have received 10 1st place votes for MVP in the AL, that would actually count as 6 1st place votes, and if he were to receive an addition 10 1st place votes for NL MVP that would actually count as 4.
Bruins - The only time I can even stand to watch hockey is in the playoffs. During the regular season it seems as if they are way to conservative and are scared to take shots because they do not want to turn the puck over or they are hesitant to make a big hit because they do not want to give the other guy a breakaway. Besides it is the begining of football season. Wait a few months.
Celtics - I do not know enough about basketball to talk about it in depth, but I can only imagine that teams have been preparing for them specifically all offseason. The big 3 are all veterans, but they have not won a championship before, so it will be interesting to see how they react this time around.
Patriots - Don't you think Jerry Porter would have learned a lesson from wcc last week. I can not wait to watch sammy morriss run him over multiple tims this week. Besides doesn't he know they only won 1 game last year, and they expect Chad Penninton to be their savior????? good luck Porter!
Maybe C.C. can win the Cy Young after a league change but not MVP. I dont think anyone has ever won MVP after a mid season league change. Rick Sutcliffe won the Cy Young in 84' he went from the Indians to the Cubs. But his split was fairly even 15 starts for Cle and 20 for Chi.
From Jerry Porter:
"I just know he's not a Tom Brady. So if it's not Tom Brady, it shouldn't be that hard," Porter said Wednesday. "I think Tom can just make some of the plays other quarterbacks can't do. He's been in the offense. He's proven. He was the MVP last year. It's not the MVP we're going against.
"They won last week, but it's not like they're putting up the crazy 40 points they did when they had Tom. So it's a different offense, a different team without Tom in there. I don't care what anybody says, it's just not the same team without Brady."
Porter said the Dolphins (0-2) have a plan to deal with Cassel: "Treat him like you treat a backup."
"How do you prepare for a backup? He don't get that many snaps, right? So you throw the kitchen sink at him," Porter said. "That's what we're going to do."
....I must say that I completely enjoy Porter's attempt to rally his team. He should be on the Browns, Bengals, or Jets...they need attitude to be a better team.
That said...Porter is out of his league this weekend....and will be called out after the Pats win 27 - 10.
I actually just realized I wrote Jerry Porter, and not Joey. Sorry!
Money well spent. Well no money spent.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Boston Celtics forward Darius Miles has been suspended without pay for 10 games for violating the terms of the anti-drug program at the end of the 2007-08 season.
Miles' suspension will begin with the first game of the 2008-09 regular season for which he is eligible and physically able to play. Miles has missed the past two NBA seasons because of knee injuries. He has averaged 10.6 points and 5.2 rebounds in his career.
The 26-year-old was selected third overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2000 draft.
He signed with the Celtics last month.
Joey Porter backed up his big mouth today in a big way.
GMAC, a friend called me on that Miles issue acting like it was breaking news, but the C's knew this when they signed him.
If it makes matters better it was a diet supplement that caused the positive result, nothing crazy.
Final game at Yankee Stadium....
1. I enjoyed the opening ceremony
2. Boggs there, no Clemens
3. Damon ALMOST the final HR in Yankee Stadium
4. Ruth daughter throws out 1st pitch...pssst, she's a Sox fan (true)
As much as I hate them, would any other franchise even come close to the Yanks in a game of "all-time" teams? Who is #2? Dodgers? Cardinals? Red Sox? White Sox? Giants?
Great start for the Bruins...7-2 win in their first pre-season game (vs MON)
