When I realized that my journey to Yankee Stadium later this month was going to be for a Sunday matinee against the Rays I was forced to ask myself a very awkward question: Will I actually be rooting for the Yankees? That goes not just for the weekend series I’ll be in New York but over these next 3 nights as well, as the Yankees battle the Rays in Tampa. Since the Sox are still chasing the Rays (5 games back going into tonight’s game) and are still somewhat comfortably ahead of the Yanks (7 games at the moment), it appears our most hated rival could actually end up being our biggest ally in the attempt to take over top spot in the AL East. Although it’s difficult for me to fathom rooting for New York, my main concern has always been, and remains, what’s best for Boston…and in this case that means the Yankees beating the Rays. I understand it’s an uncomfortable position to be in, but with the Sox best interests in mind please consider this an early edition of “DK Recommends” and start rooting for the Yankees….at least for these last 6 games against the Rays. On September 15 it will be time to take a shower and wash of that dirty feeling of wanting the Yankees to win, then we can go back to hating them and pretending none of this ever happened.Tuesday, September 2, 2008
It's Time to Love NY

I can still hate them and root for them to win at the same time.

I just wanted to get credit for 2 posts.
I'm still not going to root for the Yankees. I'm rooting for the Rays to beat themselves.
You two gave bad karma...the Yanks ended their 2 game streak over the Rays tonight and lost the final game of the series.
Feel free to root against the Yanks again until they play them next weekend, and we'll see how the standing are then before making any rooting decisions.
Nice if the Rays can keep losing and then we can go back to just rooting against the Yanks regardless.
I'm sticking to my prediction that Tampa doesn't make the playoffs.
As long as the yankees keep Spending $46 million for Kei Igawa types to pitch em into the Triple-A playoff finals, I think they will continue to find themselves in forth place in the BIG SHOW.
and thats fine with me.
