With the 2008 MLB Playoffs set to get underway tomorrow, clearly this is the perfect time for some playoff predictions. Now that the White Sox have knocked off the Twins in their one-game playoff to take the 8th and final spot, the match ups are now set and the predictions must now be made. Here are mine...
American League: ALDS - BOS def. LAA 3-1. The Angels may finally snap the Sox streak of beating them in 9-straight post-season games, but Boston will move to 4-0 against them in playoff series history. TB def. CWS 3-0. The White Sox will be tired from battling until Game #163 and the Rays should be energized by capacity home crowds that are actually rooting for them for the first time in team history. Sweep! ALCS - BOS def TB 4-1. Once the Rays momentum is halted, which is will be in the series opener, these upstarts will be facing pressure and self doubt for the first time all year, and the Red Sox will never look back.
National League: NLDS – PHI def. MIL 3-1. I have a hard time betting against C.C. Sabathia at the moment, but if the Phillies can wrap this up in 4 they will only have to face C.C. once. I’m not sold anyone else on the Brewers can stop Utley, Howard and company with how hot they are at the moment. CHC def. LAD 3-1. Manny-mania comes to a quick playoff end without Big Papi by his side in the post-seasons. Carlos Zambrano could challenge Manny to a crazy contest before this series is through. NLCS - CHC def. PHI 4-0. The Cubs are the better team, and it’s hard to bet against the best team with a solid pitching staff come playoff time.
World Series: Boston Red Sox def. Chicago Cubs 4-3. The Sox take advantage of better starting pitching, Series experience, home field advantage (thanks JD Drew!) and the first instant replay in WS history to prevail in 7 games. Each season the Sox haven’t won you can always look back and see why it was obvious they weren’t going to. This year, if injuries are not a factor, I can’t see that being the case. If Beckett and the boys stay healthy the Sox will become the first back-to-back World Champions since 2000 and the first Sox team to do it since 1916.

I think the Cubs will sweep and then be hurt by a prolonged layoff the same way the previously red-hot Rockies were last year.
It was asked of me earlier today: how many Red Sox are still left from the 2004 World Champions. Answer: 5, 6 or 7 depending on how you look at it.
5 from '04 on active roster:
1. Varitek
2. Ortiz
3. Youkilis
4. Wakefield
5. Timline
#6, Schilling, is on the 40-man roster but hasn't played a game all year.
#7, Manny, is not on the team any more (obviously) but would likely get his 3rd ring for Boston should the Sox win the Series.
Angels over Cubs 4-2.
White Sox will not be swept.
If you're predicting the Halos to win it all JBS that obviously means you think the Sox are going to be out first round. Any predictions for this series?
WHOA!!! What kind of Boston Fan picks his team to be out in the 1st round? Maybe JBS isnt a Red Sox fan?
ALDS
Sox 3-1
Rays sweep
NLDS
Phi 3-2
Cubs 3-1
ALCS
Sox sweep Rays (playoff payback for regular season sweep)
Cubs 4-2
World Series
Sox 4-2
GMAC, looks like brilliant minds think alike...we have the same winners for every single series. Let's hope we're right!
Cubs down 1-0 in NLDS to LA...wow, I thought Ryan Dempster was much better than that.
sox over dodgers....sweep manny and win in l.a.
Cubs will win Game 2. Then Dodgers will win Game 3...
Cubs down 10-1, I don't like your chances of being right Luke.
Yeah me neither. Though it becomes closer and closer to being a Manny BoSox finale.
I'd love it...and (and I know you agree) hopefully the focus will remain on the Sox and not simply Manny if that happens.
