As always there are plenty of odds and ends in the world of sports to discuss in this week's edition of "Mid-Week Miscellaneous". With the Olympics happening, are there any sports/athletes that have gotten your attention? What about the Chinese gymnasts clearly lying about their ages? (and should their be a minimum age anyway?). How about Hank Steinbrenner blaming the Yankees poor performance on injuries? Or the Rays still maintaining their spot atop the AL East? How did Prince Fielder shoving a teammate in the dugout not get more attention? Did you know baseball is out of the next Olympics? Pats getting ready for their 2nd pre-season game and apparently close to signing John Lynch. Who would win: Boston Celtics for US Olympic team? Anything else that deserves a mention? Here's your chance...

It's hilarious to me that Hank would try to blame the Yanks failures on injury alone. "Where would the Sox be if Beckett and Lester went down?". Well first of all a team needs to be put together with injury possibilities in mind. Second of all the Sox have lost Schilling for the entire year, Lugo for a long stretch, Beckett, Dice-K, Wakefield and Buchholz have all spent time on the DL this year. So has Mike Lowell. Manny wasn't even trying for some games and Big Papi missed over two months. Wow, poor Yankees. I can't believe they are actually easier to root against without George Steinbrenner...his kid is equally arogant AND he's a total idiot. Not a good combo.
Lynch has signed and is practicing now according to the Patriots website.

The USA girls(they are not yet women) olympics for the first time in history won the gold and silver in the individual competition.
Did anyone else see this...NBA teams are being told not to offer a contract to this center from Irann because he's an Iranian National. Weird.

If anyone saw the Sox game last night they know why Roy Halladay is my favorite pitcher in baseball. Goes the distance, gets the win, and the game is over in 2 hours 15 minutes. I know Toronto would probably not trade him in-division, but man would I love him on the Sox.
