There is plenty to talk about in this edition of "Mid-Week Miscellaneous". The Olympics have already started (though the Opening Ceremony is not until Friday)...are you excited for the Olympics? What are you most looking forward to? Any sports that you enjoy once every four years? Any ideas for future Olympic events? NFL season is officially underway...do you think it starts too soon or did you wish it began in March? The Sox are hot thanks in part to some horrible competition....should their solid play of late have us optimistic or is this just a mirage created by weak opposition? Did you realize the Sox have lost 15 straight road games decided by one run? How is that possible? Sports Illustrated polled MLB players this week asking who was the "Most Clutch Hitter in MLB". The results: 1)David Ortiz. 2)Manny Ramirez.....A-Rod was tied for 10th. The Celtics 15th spot is still open. Paul Pierce got handcuffed in Vegas, but not arrested or even cited. Should we care? Anything else (preferably not related to the Packers former QB)? Here's your chance...

One thing I hate about the Olympics is that they are half way around the world, so the events (i.e. basketball) take place early in the morning here and therefore we don't see them live and it's almost impossible to avoid finding out results ahead of time. Without trying to I knew who won the Olympic soccer game that was on tonight...though it probably saved me 2 hours of my life in that case.
Next sport = golf.
A former "Weekend Grudge" on ESPN's Titletown, USA is still a grudge. In case you missed it the final outcome was....
1. Valdosta, GA
2. Parkersburg, W.V.
3. Green Bay, Wis.
4. Massillon, Ohio
5. Boston
6. Gainesville, Fla.
#5? Really?
ESPN's new may to annoy me is picking their all-time greatest player for each franchise in baseball. While I have no doubt that Ted Williams will easily win for the Sox, how is Dewey Evans not one of the Top 10 candidates?
anyone interested in fantasy football. just started a free league w/ live online draft on 8/30/08. its thru yahoo so you need a yahoo acct.

12 team max so first come first serve. i already have some invites out to other guys i've played with before
Dont be alarmed if we start getting some anti Boston sports opinions i told some people i work with about the site and asked them to check it out. All sports fans but not Boston sports fans.
As long as it's intelligent arguments, anti-Boston or not, the more the merrier....
watching the olympics:
Fencing is so boring to watch. They wear electronic sensors to see who hit who first - dont even need a real referee
Team handball is so fun to watch. They can get whistled for "passive play" which is basically what all college basketball teams do at the end of games (eg. Duke) to run out the clock. LOVE THE rules in handball. Really intense
Women's volleyball is also awesome (and Men's) - so much more strategy involved than I realized. Really fun to watch the fake spikers vs real spikers - never really can tell who is the decoy.
it wasn't fencing...it actually was "women's sabre" weird
Whatever MLB drug is most used now, Carlos Quentin is blatantly on it
I was thinking the same thing about Quentin....
as for the Olympics, water polo really impresses me.
