DK Recommends: The Olympics

Hopefully this week's recommendation is one that you have all done on your own without needing my advice: watch the Summer Olympics! I wouldn't think this even needed to be recommended, but a guy a work with (a big sports fan) was genuinely shocked that I was so excited talking about Michael Phelps quest for 8 Gold Medals. "But it's swimming" he said. "But it's the Olympics" I tried to reason. He clearly didn't understand my passion. I absolutely love the Olympics and can watch just about any event with great enthusiasm. This week alone I've watched badminton and doubles ping pong and loved them both. Not to mention synchronized diving, indoor volleyball, water polo, gymnastics and other sports I can't get enough of (and wont watch again until 2012). And back to Phelps, anytime anyone does anything that nobody else on the planet has ever done it is impressive to me. Period. His quest for 8 Golds has kept me on the edge of my seat each race. If you haven't been already, please watch. Then try to tell me you don't feel the same way.

Anyone watch Phelps race in the 100 butterfly last night? I'd say that falls a close 2nd second to that relay as the most exciting swimming races I've ever seen....and two of the most exciting sporting events period.

Last night was the first one i missed of al his races. Somewhat upsetting after watching the rply to know that i missed a victory as cloase as .01 seconds.

I hate the gymnastics judges. I only watch them during the olympics but they seemed terribly inconsistent.

In the USA vs. Celtics poll, are the rules International, or traditonal NBA ?

Good question Luke...how about a half of each.

Did anyone see Bolt win the men's 100? A few thoughts....

1. Amazing.

2. Idiot..why not finish before celebrating? I wonder how fast his time would have been.

3. Only sprint as memorable to me is Ben Johnson crushing Carl Lewis (and everyone else) in the 2nd half of the 100 in '88. Which brings me to #4...

4. Steroids? It has to be asked. The guy didn't even run the 100 until this year and he does that? Sorry to question it, but the sport brought it upon themselves.

The just showed a Chinese gymnast crying after a bad performance on the floor. It's pretty tough to see a 16 year old trying not to cry in front of the world. I love the Olympics, but that is tough to watch.

Speaking of badminton, the men's singles was won by a Chinese guy named Li Dan and it looked like a Beatles concert in the arena. Amazing.

I was thinking the same thing about Bolt. Freakin incredible, and he probably could've shaved around 4 tenths off of his time but we'll never know. I was just talking to my friend about the steroid question especially since the women from Jamaica won as well. 1 & 2 for both I believe. I know they are (super) talented, but that's a small country. I would investigate the team...
but that doesn't really have any bearing.

Actually 1,2,3 for women, after their country has never gotten a medal before. Hmmmmm....sort of like the French swimmers who went from terrible to world power in 4 years. Sorry, but you can't help but question it. That's their own fault (IOC), not ours.

Did anybody see the "women" in the 110 hurdles Tuesday night? At least half of those women looked like men or horses. One lady from Jamaica was jacked and a woman from Canada would have put most of the Pats linebackers to shame with her body.
The American women might be on juice too but at least they look like women. The gold medalist from America had boobs and the favorite was very feminine looking and pretty good looking too.
