MLB All Star Game Roundup

Last night's (or should I say this morning's) MLB All Star Game turned out to be one of the most memorable for a variety of reasons. This posting is a space for folks to talk about whatever they came away talking about most. There was the outstanding opening ceremonies bringing out lots of living Hall of Famers (where was Yaz by the way?). Tito going out of his way to show respect to/for the Yankees in the last All Star Game ever at Yankee Stadium (i.e. Jeter batting second instead of Pedroia, letting A-Rod and Jeter exit mid-inning to get ovations, letting Mariano close). J.D. Drew continuing his awesome rebound season by smashing a homer and winning MVP. Papelbon getting bashed in the New York Post, apparently having his pregnant wife threatened during the parade, and getting booed mercilessly before almost getting tagged with the loss. Brandon Webb and Scott Kazmir pitching despite their teams asking they don't. Both teams running out of pitchers and the uncertainty of what would happen if the game had to go another inning. Bud Selig somehow not having a contingency plan in place in case this happened....again. The longest (time-wise) All Star Game ever ended around 2 am EST when many young baseball fans has been snoozing for 5+ hours. Did I miss anything? Let me know...

Pablebon needs to shut his pie hole....The guys a loud mouth who tried to completely back track after stating clearly that he thinks he should close the game in yankee stadium over mariono rivera--then gets mad at the NY media for blowing it up...maybe if he checked himself and showed a little class/self-restraint for once in his life he wouldn't have had this issue....blah blah he's competitive blah blah he's got a closer's mentality blah blah..he can be a moron sometimes. The classy thing to say is--Mariano Rivera's arguably the best closer of all time pitching in his home ballpark-of course he should close the game. moron.

as for the game, i kinf of wish it had gotten to the point where francona had to say he wasn't sending his pitcher out any more...that would have been weird/cool--seems strange though that this would be how home field could have been decided---AL not being able to field a full team anymore...I'm sure he would have caught some serious grief for that and wish we could have seen the debate regarding how he managed the staff through the game..

I agree that Papelbon is a meat head at times, and it is good for the rivalry for sure. He pitched great aside from that single - 2 Ks, lazy sac fly - to go along with the worst throw by a catcher I have seen in a while by Navarro. Wide left with a bounce, which actually is the worst scenario.

As for Selig, I learned by watching Clint Hurdle's press conference that Selig was totally clear with both managers that the game will continue until it is won...it is up to the managers to make it happen. I think this is totally fair but brings into question the rosters and rules. I cant believe that players are allowed on the teams with instructions given about whether they can pitch or not. You are on the team, you are expected to play when called upon. Period. I understand lobbying for 1 inning of work, but lobbying for NO innings of work is out of control. I love that the game means something and was really pissed listening to the ESPN commentators (especially Steve Phillips) saying that the game should be exhibition. Are they serious? What game was he watching? What a moron.

You did miss Dan Uggla almost matched his season total for errors in 1 game.

As for Paps needing to shut his mouth.. He should talk smack and lots of it the game is not ony physical, its also mental. He currently is one of the best closers in the game. And if he can get into a guys head and can get him out of his game a little i'm all for talking smack. He's a Red Sox player he will always catch flack in NY. They booed Tito and he was nothing but nice.

If i was the manager and a team told me not to let a player they had on the team play. I would give them 2 options give me a fill in that can play or i'm gonna work your guy like a rented mule. But i say that a a fan not a mgr.
