Mid-Week Miscellaneous

Mid-Week Miscellaneous is a new feature on the site. It's purpose is simply to provide a place to post opinions, observations, links, suggestions, grudges, (etc) that may not fit under the other posts currently up, yet need to be shared. This will be a weekly feature (if used) and can be for literally whatever people want to use it for. Currently, for example, there is lots going on: the Olympic trials, Pats training camp just 2 weeks away, NBA's free agency period has begun with several big bangs, and the B's are having a developmental camp for prospects. Plus, of course, anything else you want to touch base on....from how much you hate the Rays to how much you miss Bob Ross and his mighty brush. Go nuts...this posting is up for grabs!

3 questions to get a conversation started...

I mentioned the idea for a Celtics trade. A move to get Ron Artest. What are some opinions on that and what do you think a plausible way to make something like that happen could be?

I read the Patriots football weekly blog (Q&A) pretty frequently. And there seem to be alot of people that want to see the Pats make major changes to the O-line. I dont really see the need for that does anyone else?

Would you have interest in another Boston team? Like an NL baseball team or an NFC NFL team.

I've actually never been a Matt Light fan, but he was 1st team All Pro last year. I love Logan Mankins. I think Koppen is very solid. I think Neal is excellent, when healthy, but he needs to stay healthy. On the other side it's up for grabs...will be interesting to see who winds up with that spot.

I don't think it's perfect by any means, but I think people are putting too much on one game (the biggest game mind you) in making those types of calls.

Funny you should mention the idea of a 2nd team in Boston. I don't think a 2nd NFL team is a great idea (our only team was blacked out not long ago....and Belichick and Brady can't help both teams).

I do however love the idea of an NL team in Boston and think it's very possible. I was going to make it a "DK Recommends..." at some point. With Fenway selling out every game there would certainly be a market for another team (I'd imagine) from those who can't get into Fenway anymore.

It would also give me a team to watch without having to listen to Remy. Major bonus there.

Since the beginning of June, Rays catcher Dioner Navarro has only a .257 batting average.

Right now, the College Bass National Championships that are taking place in Little Rock, Ark. Bass as in fish.

The Steelers may be for sale, which is totally nuts to me.

Mike Dunleavy, head coach of clippers, unleashes against Brand's agent: "It all changed, and I don't know the reason for it. David Falk had an incredible influence on [Brand], to poison him in some way against us," Dunleavy said, according to the L.A. Daily News. "We never even got a call to understand there even was a problem, or why there was a problem. … It was uncharacteristic of EB."

I have thought for a long while that the Pats, while watching other teams film (like every team does in prep for an opponent) should've been watching mostly their own at the end of the year. As anyone knows who watched them with any regularity, they went from winning every game for the first 6 weeks like 38 - 7, or something in that ballpark, while the last five games were like 20 - 10, and a streak of other close ones. I really think this would've allowed them to zero in on what other teams were seeing, in such a super rare scenario (being undefeated).

No other football team is needed. Another baseball team is a very interesting proposition, but do you really think DK you'd tune into them instead of the Sox (when both were playing). I agree it is a very marketable proposition, but in almost every city there is 2 teams, there is a strict rivalry.

Don't really want Artest.... he is a great player, but too much potential for "poison."

Bass fishing??! I told you I voted for you right...

It is sad too, about the Clippers. Right when they started to get decent.... (they were 8th seed in the West just a few years ago) - the primary reasons (remaining), Maggette, & Brand hit the road. Tough break. That team really must not care about winning...
Though I don't like to believe that of any professional team.

fuck the clippers. Their owner is a sleazebag

Google the story called: "Donald T. Sterling's Skid Row Mirage"

JBS, I had a feeling you would enjoy the Miscellaneous area. I actually thought Walpole Joe would be taking advantage of this, but I think him and PolarBear have both gone into hiding since the Hall of Fame voting has seen them getting slaughtered.

Side note grudge: This whole "maple bat" issue in baseball that is such a media construction now that the controversy on steroids is quiet. Professional players know how to get out of the way of a baseball moving 100+ miles an hour...let alone an wooden bat moving at 10 miles an hour. If they don't do it well, they should be in the minors.

I would pay top dollar to go to a PawSox game with Ortiz in the lineup which is happening soon. Papi is expected back in the lineup for the Yanks series on 7/25. Pawtucket will be a circus and the game highlights will be top story in Boston sports news.

Hopefully that despicable man won't still own the team when I am sitting courtside next to Ice Cube....
He seems less than human.

DK has mentioned removing the anonymous option from posts. I think many people and many opinions is one reason this site is so great. But with the anonymous posts i'm not sure if its always the same person or if its different people posting. It doest cost anything to create an account. So please if you post under anonymous pick a name to post under other than anonymous.

I don't want to stop anyone from posting, for previously mentioned reasons. But how bout a vote on anonymous posts?

Luke said...

Agreed wholeheartedly.

You don't even need an "account," just put in a name.

That's my biggest problem with Anonymous too...you don't always know if it's the same person.

I wish there was a way to remove the Anonymous option but still allow the "Open ID" or "Name" options...but unfortunately it's either all or nothing.

I have changed my thought on this a few times and re-allowed it because people said they were having trouble signing in and most (luke, jbs) type in their name even when they are not "signed in". I have been trying not to give people an excuse not to post, but I think you are right GMAC, this should go to a vote...
