The talk around Boston for the past week or so (myself very much included) has been that the Celtics will sign either James Posey or Corey Maggette when the free agent signing period opens up tomorrow. However, like many fans who choose the glass as eternally half-full, the thought that the Celts wouldn't land Maggette or Posey never seriously dawned on me...until now. It is rumored that Maggette is headed to Golden State (5-years, $50 million) and the Hornets (among others) are now hot after Posey. Yikes! What exactly is "Plan C" here? I'm assuming Danny Ainge has one...though it scares me if that plan is counting on a rookie, J.R. Giddens, to fill the shoes of a valuable veteran like Posey. Big-time risk. If the Maggette rumors are true, and Posey does get a deal too good to pass up, it appears the best "Plan C" might be taking a shot at restricted free agents Josh Childress (Hawks) or old friend Ryan Gomes (T-Wolves). Since they are both restricted there is no guarantee we would even be able to sign either if they wanted to come here, but I do think it would be worth a shot...otherwise it looks like letting the rook play might be "Plan D".

Not sure what it would take to sign Childress (if possible) but I think he may be even higher than a Plan C if that's a legit possibility.
Also, if the Maggette contract is true, it's tough to believe somebody cares only about winning when they sign that deal with that team (who no longer has Baron Davis). Maybe he really did have the best PR staff in the biz.
I still think Childress is a significant dropoff from Maggette or Posey. He's alright....
Of the guys GMac listed on the other page, I like Gibson, Giricek or Bonzi... though I worry Bonzi is getting older. Haven't heard too much about him recently. Again, I have no tv so I don't know if we actually have a shot at these guys, or who else might be on the market ...(or even, maybe Bonzi is just as good as ever, though I doubt it).
It would be a downer to miss out on both the Pose and Maggette though.
I agree if all we have is a rookie Giddens, we are in [a little] trouble.
It's not like maturity has been on his credential list thus far.
We almost need Posey at this point.
I think Pose is coming back. The most we can offer is the mid level which is like 5.5 million I think. What about a 4 year 30 million offer? Lets be honest, this is a short term plan with The Big Three so we need guys like Pose in the mix, its all about defense and I don't think there is ANYONE in the league coming off the bench that is better at it then Pose.
The question is if anyone is gonna give him a 5 or 6 year deal. If someone steps up like that then he's gone, if not he finishes his career in Boston
I LOVE the idea of signing Gomes, plays like a veteran, would fit it perfectly
Maybe Vin Baker is available?
sad: http://www.cnbc.com/id/25480948
At the forward position there are a good amount of guys out there that are available at the F position other than Maggette and Posey.
Unresticted FA's
Bonzi Wells
Devin Brown
Devean George
Eduardo Najera
Jarvis Hayes
Ricky Davis
Michael Finley
I considered adding Ronald Dupree but chose to keep him off my list. There are also some players listed as SG's that i think play sg/sf but i left them off the list also.
As i mentioned in our previous Danny Ainge grade discussion. We need to see if Ainge can keep a winning team now that he has one. This off season will be the first test of that ability
honestly, I don't really like any of the guys listed above. They all have aspects of their game missing. I do like the idea of getting Gomes back as alias suggested. That would be sweet. And I don't hate the idea of having a Bonzi off the bench as long as he knows it is for short term goals, and isn't upset with his role. The rest of those guys, directly above, all have issues with their game, that I'm not sure would be a help.
Really hoping we can keep Posey...
Possible trade. I dont know what we could give up for it but what about a trade for Artest he is not happy w/ the Kings.
What would it take to make that happen?
If we could get Artest to accept a about 10+ minutes less per game than he avgs for his career. He has stated he regrets not opting out of his deal and he wants to go to a title contender. I figure Danny "trade master" Ainge could make it happen.
(off topic)
DK no wednesday challenge this week?
Wednesday Challenge is up....everything is just a day behind. Sorry.
You can always count on everything being up every week...delayed or not.
I actually love the idea of getting Artest but we don't have the peices to make it happen. Not even close.
Posey's agent said 3 days ago that he saw this getting done (in the next day or two). I feel like this means 1 of 3 things...
1. Ainge is calling his bluff and he was expecting the C's to cough up the 4th year (or whatever is holding it up).
2. Best offer is currently from a team that Posey doens't want to play for, but finds it hard to leave money on the table and is hoping the C's up their offer.
3. Some team has asked for time in order to try and free up enough money to sign him.
